この盤は、とあるCDショップで試聴して、気が付いたら購入していた…といったヤツです。試聴（運良く全部聴けたんですよ！）の段階で、思わず『すげ-』と溜め息交じりの感嘆符が口から出て行きましたからねぇ…今までこんなアプローチ、解釈での演奏は初めてで、こういうことは、今となってはロストロポーヴィチ以外にできないのではないでしょうか？彼は、ショスタコーヴィチとも親交があったようで、ロシア革命以後の暗黒の時代を体験した者にしか表現し得ない要素を感じますし、我々素人にも容易に感じとることのできる表現を『これでもか』とばかりに搾り出し尽くしているなぁ、と感じました。好みは分かれるでしょうが、そういう嗜好の問題を超えて、『これがショスタコーヴィチの音楽だ！』と云わんばかりの演奏で、『洗練』とか『上品』といった単語とは無縁の、ある意味問題作とも云えそうな１枚です。演奏もその解釈に追従した天晴れな内容で、ロンドン響のメンバーのレベルの高さを改めて感じますし、はっきり云ってメンバー全員『キレキレ』です。録音もクリアーで立体感抜群！まるでライブ盤の如きの臨場感です。数ある『ショスタコの５番』の名演奏の中でも、この盤は間違いなく上位にランクインすると思いますよ。私的にもこの盤と出逢えたことで、この曲に対する概念とランクが完全に入れ替わりましたから…この価格でこの内容は安すぎるかも。本来『革命』とは無縁の曲ですが、聴き手のどこかしらの部分にきっと『革命』を起こしてくれるでしょうね。
