英の3ピース、ギターロックバンド、
フィーダーの5thアルバム。
プロデュースはフー・ファイターズ、
ジミー・イート・ワールドを手がけた
ギル・ノートン。

1995年デビュー時のメンバーは
グラント・ニコラス（g、vo）、ジョン・リー（ds）、タカ・ヒロセ（b）。
しかし2002年ジョン・リー（ds）が自殺。
グラントとタカは失意のなか、
4thアルバムを作り上げる。
4thアルバムをサポートしたドラマー、
元スカンク・アナンシーのマーク・リチャードソンを迎え
現在は活動している。

私は4thアルバムで彼らのことを知ったが
ダークなセンチメンタリズムに彩られた
そのサウンドのファンになった。
ライブ・バンドとして、
ラウドな面がクローズアップされることが多い彼らだが
素晴らしいソングライティングと
際立ったメロディ・センスが
彼らの魅力の根幹にはある。

ジョンの死を乗り越える過程において
さまざまな思い、深い内省・葛藤があっただろうが
彼らは、素晴らしい曲を作りあげることで
見事に昇華している。

ジョンの死は悲しむべきことだが
曲に深さと美しさをもたらしている。

本作においても
儚く、切ないメロディは際立ち
グラントのヴォーカルは
狂おしいほどに美しい。
しかし、そこには悲しみだけではない
ポジティブな力強さ、
希望へ向けたメッセージが宿っている。

彼らのバンドとしての成熟と
ジョンへの愛、真摯な音楽への愛情を
是非、感じて欲しい。

素晴らしい作品だ。
