日本語環境を提供するLinuxディストリビューション。Kernel 2.4.27に多くの機能増強パッチを採用し、グラフィックスカードX.Org X11R6.7.0、市販のかな漢字変換システム「Wnn7」などにも対応の「VJE-Delta(Intel、PowerPC対応)」と「Canna」を収録。また、日本語フォントも整備され、リコー社製TrueTypeフォント5書体(LX明朝、LXゴシック、LX創英角ゴシックUB、LX丸ゴシック、LX創英角ポップ)に加えて、ダイナコムウエア社製TrueTypeフォント5書体も収録。デスクトップにはGNOME2.4、パッケージ管理システムには従来のコマンドラインインタフェースである「apt」以外に、より分かりやすいグラフィカルインタフェース「Synaptic」を採用し、追加パッケージとして「VinePlus」に「WindowMaker」「KDE」「XFce」なども収録している。

ベースはRedHatなので、ネット上の資料も充実。
日本語環境が他のディストリビューションに比べて格段に整っている。
各種サーバにも使えるほどの安定性。
Pentium2でも動く軽さ。(実際に運用してます)

2.6はgcc/glibc/gtkなどの主要コンポーネントが一昔前のもので
最新のソフトウェアをmakeするときは苦労したが、3.1になってそれも解消。

現在、最良の選択肢の1つだと思います。
