　一部でカルト的評価を受ける作品。低予算の制限の中で工夫を凝らし、見せる、という良い意味でのＢ級精神たくましい佳作です。「拳銃狂」（「魔」ではないと思います）の少年が成人して、拳銃そのもののような女と恋に落ち、やがて強盗となって悲惨な末路を迎える、という物語のほうは、２人が出会ってから最初の強盗を行うまでの展開が淡々と進んでしまうので、主人公の運命の悲劇性が今ひとつ盛り上がりません。ただ、見せ場となる２回の強盗シーンは良いです。特に、自動車の後部座席にキャメラを据えてワンカットで撮った１つ目のシーンは臨場感があって素晴らしい。
　なお、本作の封切り時の原題は“Deadly Is the Female ”で、“Gun Crazy”は再公開時に新たに付けられたものだそうです。また、タイトルには名前は出ていませんが、脚本にはダルトン・トランボが参加していたという話もあります。

予想よりも格段に画質がよかったのでうれしかったです。気付いたところでは、字幕に一ケ所誤植があったのは興醒めで残念でした。
『ジョルスン物語』の監督でもあるジョゼフ・Ｈ・ルイスのフィルム・ノワ-ル。もっとスタイリッシュな作品と思っていましたが主人公の生い立ちから始まり、そこが何となくもたもたする印象ですが、結末の伏線となるので、仕方ありません。長廻しで有名な『黒い罠』より以前に作られた本作の約４分間の長廻しは期待したよりはあっさりしたものですが、主人公が一度画面から退場することで、異様な緊張感があります。ヒロインにあまり説得力は感じられませんでした。しかし、犯罪映画の好きな方なら見る価値のある映画だと思います。

数々の隠れた佳作を撮り、後にTV界で活躍したジョセフ・H・ルイス監督の力作です。なぜか拳銃に幼少のころから魅せられ続けた男と、快楽のためには人を殺すこともいとわない女がひょんなことから意気投合し、逃避行を続けるというのが本編の内容。

随所にスピーディな展開とキャラクターたちの重い息遣いを盛り込み、低予算作品ながら新鮮な力強さに溢れるフィルムです。特に小道具としての車の使い方にクリエイティブなものを感じます。逃避行を続ける二人が別れようとしてそれぞれ車で立ち去ろうとするのですが再び合流してしまうシーンや、強盗を働いたあとの逃亡を車の後部座席にカメラをすえて長回しでとらえたショットなど、思わず「これは！」と興奮してしまうほどのうまさ、美しさ。

題名にもある『拳銃魔』の女に扮したペギー・カミンズの憎らしいのか、愛らしいのかわからない複雑な個性と演技も、この作品を記憶に残るフィルムノワールに仕立て上げている要因の一つ。そしてなによりも、低予算にめげずに自分の色を出しきろうとしたジョゼフ・H・ルイス監督の独創性には本当に頭が下がります。
