UK-Reggae Dub Poetのカリスマ、Linton Kwesi Johnson(LKJ)の音楽生活25周年記念Live盤(LKJRecords/2003)です。1st｢Dread Beat An' Blood(Poet And The Roots名義)｣から最新作｢More Time｣まで、LKJの軌跡を辿るのにほぼ必要かつ充分なBest盤的選曲となっています(★5つじゃ足りない!!)。盟友Dennis Bovell率いるDub Bandの演奏も実に素晴らしく、Dub会場の雰囲気が伝わる名盤です。Reggae好きのみならず全ての音楽好きに聴いて頂きたいです。ちなみに曲目は以下の通りです。

なお、同曲目＆LKJのInterviewが収録された英国盤DVD(Region2/PALでPCでの再生は可能と思われます)も同時リリースされていますが、日本国内では発売されていないようです。個人的には、地球上で究極の音楽は絶対にLKJだと思っています。再来日を切に希望します。いつか生LKJを見たい!!

のんびりレゲエは、どうもボクの場合聴く時を選びます。
ボブ・マーリー系はノリは良いのですが、なんとなく聴く頻度ではロックに負けてしまいます。
そんなボクの中で劣勢レゲエも、この人だけは別。

ヒップ・ホップやギル・スコット・ヘロンのようなクール感。いつでも聴ける。

このライブも期待を裏切らず、泣きのギターに低音ボイス＆しっかりしたベースライン、侘びのハーモニカが良いです。

客もノリノリ。

(おなじタイトルのDVDに関係づけてコメントします)
かなり大規模な会場なので、観客との距離があることは残念ながら否めない。かれが東京のクアトロでライヴを演ったとき分かったのだが、観客とのコミュニケーションもリントンの音楽の重要な一部。さすがにこれだけの演奏できるミュージシャンいないし、本編およびボーナスのインタヴューで聞ける朗読も最高なので惜しいのだが、カメラワークのまずさと会場の大きさのため星マイナス１。ちなみにDVDはリージョンフリーで、日本のDVDプレーヤでも見れます。
