Blue~ Noteの1500番代で唯一番号が決まり、カタログにも掲載されながら発売されなかったレコード。当時の「クール・ストラッティン」(1588)の売り上げが不振だったため、見送られたというのが有力な説になっている。既に名盤としてのステイタスを確立した「クール・ストラッティン」のアウトテイク２曲、「ロイヤル・フラッシュ」「ラヴァー」を含むこのアルバムは、何~~故発売が見送られたか訝しむほどクラークの出来がいい。「クール・ストラッティン」が気に入った人なら間違いなく買って損はない。~

ブルーノートの中では、レコード番号が用意されていながら結局発売されなかったアルバムが何枚かあるが、このアルバムもその一つである。結局、このアルバムは録音から２０年近く経った７６年、ソニー・クラークの人気に注目した東芝ＥＭＩスタッフによって陽の目を見たわけだが、そのことは逆に、アメリカ本国で彼が評価されていなかったためとも言われている。
さて、本アルバムの冒頭２曲はＢ.Ｎの大人気盤クール・ストラッティンと同日、同メンバーで録音されたものであるが、この2曲が何と言っても素晴らしい。ファーマーとマクリーンの２管編成も素晴らしく、まさにハードバップの黄金時代といった風格である。他の曲では「マイナー・ミーティング」がいい。この曲は５６年以降４回も録音されていて、ソニー・クラークお気に入りらしく、彼のオリジナル曲では最も録音回数が多い（本作は２回目の録音）。
しかしながら、個人的な考えで言えば、本作をクール・ストラッティンの後に聞くと残念ながら少しがっかりする（特にラスト２曲）。こんなことを言えば、支持者から叱られるかもしれないが、やはり比較される相手＜Ｃ．ストラッティン＞が偉大すぎるのだ。もちろん本アルバムも名作なんだけど、長年の間、伝説めいたことが先行したためか、少し過大評価しているように思うのだが気のせいだろうか。
