新しいSnoopを求めてる人にはいいものだと思う。
前作でも感じたことだが、以前の人との決別の仕方はある意味気持ちよい部分もある。
先行シングルのDrop It Like It's Hotは、ジワジワチャートを上がってトップになったことからも分かるように、聞けば聞くほど味が出てくる曲だ。一聴しただけではなかなか理解できない。
他もそのような曲が揃っているのかと思いきや、結構予想できる普通の作りだったので、個人的な星は少ない。

西側の最重要ラッパーとして90年代を駆け抜けてきたスヌープドッグ。今回はネプチューンズのレーベルに移籍してのアルバムであり、エグゼクティブ・プロデューサーは勿論ネプチューンズである。よって、全曲の中では最多の5曲提供に至るのだが、最近の地味で低迷気味だったネプチューンズからなど、およそ想像も出来ないぐらい奇抜で複雑なリズムとアレンジが宛がわれ、2004年最高傑作のシングル候補まで収録されている。

その先行シングルはビルボードで2位まで上昇。いつもの木箱を蹴るような単純で解りやすいネプチューンズのドラムは、べったりと弾けるような近未来的な音へと変貌し、ティンバランドが使いそうな声のサンプリングでカッコンカッコンと音を立てて病みつきになってしまう。この曲の為だけに買っても良いくらいだ。勿論他の曲もそれに準ずる出来で、一筋縄ではいかない。ジャスティンをフィーチャリングし曲は、スヌープよりジャスティンの方が個性で勝ってしまっていて、一瞬ジャスティンの楽曲かと思ってしまう。

他にもリル・ジョンなどの旬のプロデューサーを大量に起用しての20曲に達する大ボリューム。それでもネプチューンズの印象的なカムバックのせいで、他の作品は目立たなくなってしまう。少なくとも2004年のネプチューンズに取って、最も力を入れたアルバムには間違いないはずだ。

全米シングルチャートを制覇したシングル(3)を収録のSnoop Doggの最新アルバム。いやあ、それにしても(3)にはたまげました。このかっちょよさはやばすぎ。ここ最近活動がイマイチだったNeptunesだが、ここではやってくれました。地鳴りのようなヘヴィビートにお経のようなラップ、サビでのタイトルコールの連発、もうフロアを唸らせること間違いなしの滅茶苦茶Coolな楽曲。これは1位も納得。このNeptunesは他にも(8)(10)(16)を手掛けているが、どれもがどこかメローな部分を感じられる一定水準を越えたレベルの高いものばかり。HipHopトラックというよりはR&Bトラックだが、さすが本領発揮といった感じ。その彼らが手掛けたものの中で(18)は、(3)と同路線のCoolなHipHopトラック。どこかMissyを思い出してしまうような近未来的なトラックにメロディアスなサビ、フロアで話題になること間違いなしのかっこよさです。(3)と並んでアルバムの白眉か。他にもハネた音とメロディアスなトラックとが最高に気持ちいい(5)、など特筆すべき点は多々あるこのアルバム。Lil Jonが手掛けた(9)なんかは、もういつものピーヒャラ音が入った特に目新しい楽曲ではなくて残念だったけど。ずっとこれだと飽きられちゃうんじゃないかな、Lil Jonさん。でもアルバムがバラエティーに富んだ魅力ある作品であることには間違いなし。完全に復活ですね、Snoopさん。
