5.0 out of 5 stars 待ちに待ったコンプリートＣＤ２枚組が登場, 2005/2/6
国内版ゆえにやや割高に感じるので星４つにしたいくらいですが、内容は５つなので。翌日の2/18の3セットも2枚組みで発売されています、念のため。

確かにメンバーは違います。でもそんなに多くの時間が経っているわけではないのに、「ヴィレッジ・ヴァンガード」「ワルツ・フォー・デビー」の演奏と違ってとにかく明るい！
研ぎ澄まされた間の取り方と一音一音の緊張感はやや劣るかもしれませんが、これはこれで、弾けるようなソロが聴けますし3人の息もぴったりだと感じました。

とりわけドラムスのジョーンズが元気一杯すぎて？エヴァンスが抑えているような雰囲気も。でもバランスは決して崩れていません。

こう明るいのは、きっと精神状態が大きく影響していると思うのですが、さてどうでしょう？

コンプリート版は「ポートレイト~」などのリイシューのように同じ曲を続けて2曲聴かせるような編集がないのが嬉しいです。

エヴァンスのマニア以外の人は、この「Augus　17、1967」だけで十分
だろう。「August　18、1967」は、買う必要なし。
曲も多く重複しているし、２枚のＣＤだけでも十分に楽しめる。

このＣＤのエヴァンスはというと、彼の好きなドラマー、
フィリー・ジョー・ジョーンズにプッシュされ、ヴィヴィットかつ
ハードに演奏している。本当に楽しそう。
そう、エディ・ゴメスの存在も忘れてはならない。

お洒落なエヴァンスのカバーポートレイトが印象的な１９６７年８月１７日ビレッジヴァンガードでのライブ。翌日の１８日分も２枚組で本邦のみリリースされている。両方そろえると４７曲でコンプリートになる。ベースにはお馴染みのエディ・ゴメス、ドラムスにはあのフィリージョージョーンズのトリオによる録音だ。フィリージョー効果か、今夜のエヴァンスのピアノはスゥインギーで軽やかだ。ゴメスのベースもオフビートを強調するドラムスに中和されていつものようにゴツゴツ感じられない。肩の力の抜けたリラックスした演奏がとっても心地良いライブである。今までは、コンプリート・ビルエヴァンス・オンヴァーブ１８枚組ＣＤでしか聴けない音源だったが、近年１５曲からなるベストが"California Here I Come"として廉価盤が出されている。同一曲が頻繁に重複するが、このライブが好きな方はこの２枚組を買っても損はしないだろう。
