希望よりも絶望の中にいたい、
光よりも闇の中にいたい、そんな夜に観たくなります。
そんなダメな自分をこの映画は、優しく癒してくれます。
それとは別に音楽、映像共に美しく、大人の方も
満足されるのではないかと思います。
官能的で格好いいシーンが多く、それぞれの方お気に入りの
シーンが見つかりそう。
サントラ版では、二人の出会いのシーンの会話が収録されていて、
聴くたびに、この映画の世界に誘ってくれます。

酒のせいで会社をクビになり、妻子にも逃げられたベン（ニコラス・ケイジ）は、酒に浸って死ぬことを決意し、全財産を持ってラスベガスに行く。そのラスベガスで出会ったのが、娼婦のサラ（エリザベス・シュー）。彼女はベンのやさしさに惹かれ、やがて２人は愛し合うようになるが、やはりここでも酒が仇となり、幸せはそう長くはなかった。アル中の男と娼婦の絶望的愛の物語を、実話を元に構成した本作は、毒々しいラスベガスの夜景描写と秀逸な音楽が相まって、独特な退廃的美しさを演出している。主演の２人がそれぞれ悲劇的人生を見事に演じており、見終わった後の虚脱感は他では味わえない傑作。様々な経験を経て、人生の酸いも甘いも味わってきた紳士にはとくにお勧め。

　スティングの歌う「ANGEL EYES」，「MY ONE AND ONLY LOVE」，「IT'S A LONESOME OLD TOWN」のスタンダードナンバーが，ゆったりと優しく二人を包む。眩いネオンをアルコールに溶け込ませ，ともすると大仰になりがちな題材を，上質かつ気品ある演出で名作に仕上げたフィッギス監督見事。
　「RIDICULOUS」という歌も歌ったベンことニコラス・ケイジ。繊細さと情熱を全身で表現した，サラことエリザベス・シュー。二人がネオンと共にグラスの中に溶け込んだかのように，全てが一体となった芸術的作品。
　
　真夜中グラス片手に，エンドロールまでゆったりと浸りたい。
