合唱愛好者です。マントラも20年以上前から聴いてきました。
このＣＤは、なにしろマントラの初の全編アカペラ・アルバムです。しかも世界に先駆けて日本で発売された物ですから、当然のごとく購入しました。

どの曲もアカペラの魅力で溢れています。アカペラのみという構成はファンにはたまらないものになっています。

あの「バークレー・スクェアのナイチンゲール」に匹敵するような複雑なハーモニーとジャジーなアレンジ始まるクリスマス・ソングの定番とも言える「ホワイト・クリスマス」は、素晴らしかったです。聴きなれた曲もこのようにお洒落に歌われたら、聞き惚れてしまいますね。

４曲目の有名なキャロル「慈しみ深き王ウェンセスラス」では、マントラのメンバーのジュニア達がかわいらしい声で参加しています。これがまたクリスマスの雰囲気をかもし出しています。30年のコーラス・キャリアは音楽だけでなく、このようなジュニアの成長からも伺えます。

５曲目の「トイランド」はミュージカルナンバーからとられたものです。初めて聴きましたが、コーラスのアレンジとしてはなかなか凝っています。単なるクリスマス編集物とは一味違った仕上りになっています。

６曲目の「マイ・グロウン・アップ・クリスマス・リスト」の歌詞がとても胸を打ちました。邦訳を少し引用します。「もうこれ以上命が引き裂かれませんように　戦争がおこりませんように　時がすべての人の心を癒してくれますように　中略　これが大人になった私のクリスマス・リスト」。温かい歌詞だけでなくハーモニーもとてもジャジーなア・カペラでした。

マントラの実力の素晴らしさを再確認したアルバムです。クリスマスの期間だけの企画ものとしてだけでなく、ずっと愛聴したいＣＤですね。

~正直、発売を待ち焦がれていた "Vibrate" の出来にがっかりしていただけに、この
ミニアルバムにはすっかりヤラれてしまった。なんか、"Vibrate"~~ の出来が散漫
だったのも、こっちの方に精力を取られていたからじゃないだろうかと勘ぐりたく
もなる。

マントランとしては２枚目のクリスマスアルバム。前作の企画を商業性重視で
「俗すぎ」と批判する向きもあるようだけど、こちらも企画だけなら昨今の
アカペラブーム＋クリスマスという、これ以上のない俗な企画である事は確か。

ただし、今回~~はミニアルバムとはいえ、真正のアカペラ *だけ* でちゃんと聴ける
内容のアルバムを作っちゃっているというのがやっぱりすごい。マントランの面目
躍如です。メンバーの子供も参加しているファミリーな雰囲気も良いですね。

"Vibrate" で当惑しちゃったマントランファンのあなた、このミニアルバムで鬱憤
を晴らして、安心して新しい年を迎えましょう。~
