これは現代を部隊にした西部劇です。
ペキンパー監督はこの映画を、西部劇へのオマージュとして製作したのではないでしょうか。
酒場のケンカ、砂煙を上げてトラックが砂漠を暴走するシーン、隊列を組んで走るトラック軍団、昔の西部劇で見たようなシーンのオンパレードです。
馬をトラックに乗り換えた西部の男達が、悪徳保安官との対立をきっかけに国家権力に立ち向かうべく、大型トラックの隊列を作って暴走を始めます。
警察に追われるトラック軍団「コンボイ」に、1台、また1台とトラックが集まっていき、とてつもない数のトラックが列になって走るシーンは見ていて爽快な気分になります。
サム・ペキンパー監督お得意の直接的なバイオレンス描写は控えめですが、この映画ではバイオレンスとも言えるような激しいアクションを見せてくれます。
そして、この映画の一番の見所は、男臭い男達とド迫力のトラックでしょう。
とにかくこのトラック野郎たちがかっこいい！！特にクリス・クリストファーソンにはやられますよ~。男っ！って感じです。
そんな男とこんなトラックの組み合わせは、ある意味反則です。かっこよすぎ！
また、意地悪保安官役のアーネスト・ボーグナインもいい味出してました。この人の持ち味は、やはりこういう悪役で発揮ですね。

あと少しで国外脱出という時、メキシコとの国境にかかる橋で待ち構えていたのは・・・衝撃のラストシーン！！

　クリス・クリストファーソンがアウトロー・トラッカーを，アーネスト・ボーグナインが悪徳保安官を存在感タップリに演じる。
　前半はぶっ飛びトラックと保安官の追いかけっこ。巨大なトラック軍団が，アリゾナの砂漠の中を砂塵を巻き上げてつつ疾走する様は，爽快かつ快感。物語は後半，メッセージ性を帯びて若干スローダウンするが，そこはペキンパー，湿っぽく締めくくるわけはない。ラストのライル保安官，複雑な表情での大笑いが忘れられない。
　ＴＶサイズの画面，吹き替えはなし。映像の粗さが目立つのが残念。リマスター版は出ないかな。
