ルーファス・ウェインライトの4thアルバム。
輸入盤は20曲のDVDつき。ルーファスはライブになると更にいいです。
日本盤はボーナストラックが名曲です。
どちらも買ってしまいました。

　タラフ・ドゥ・ハイドゥークスのニコラエ爺が弾いているようなギコギコというフィドルの音から、かなりアラビックな旋律の詠唱が続き、気がつくと華麗なオーケストレイション・パートで終曲。すかさず、バンド・サウンドを幹にした2曲目へと展開したと思いきや、“幻の名盤箱”に収まっていそうなムズムズ・女声コーラスが登場。あとは、金縛りにでもあったかのように最後まで聴かされてしまいました。
　いや~ホント、参りました。アンティバラスの"Who is this America"と太陽肛門スパパーンの“テロリスト・ブッシュと人間”とこれで、3枚束にしてホワイト・ハウスに送りつけてやりたくなります。
　前作"Want One"からほぼ1年で発表され、前作の補遺盤のように言われることが多いようですが、この完成度はどうでしょう？自分でも止められない程、曲想が内から沸いてきて止められない唯我独尊ぶりは、（音楽性はまったく違いますが）一時のプリンスを思わせるような勢いに満ちています。
　ジョン・ブライオンのファンとしては、デビューの奇妙でカラフルでポップな音像が、結果としてなぜかルーファスの歌とピアノを強く印象づけてしまうという、ジョンの逆説的なプロデュース・ワークが大好きだったので、前作"Want One"はあまり聴き込めずにいました。
　でも、これは別。マリウス・デ・ヴリースのプロデュースは打ち込みの音さえもアコースティックに響かせ、ルーファスの歌に焦点がぴたりとあっています。前作までエグゼクティヴ・プロデユーサーとしてクレジットされていたレニー・ワロンカーの名前が見当たりませんが、バーバンク・サウンドの血統は相変わらず強く感じられます。
　彼の父上の"Old Friend"や母君の"Heart like a wheel"を知っている皆さん、この天才にご両親を超えてもらいましょうよ！
　しばらくは、彼の動向から目が離せないのではないでしょうか？

前作「WANT ONE」（2003年）と
同時期に録音された続編的な作品。

70年代に活躍したシンガー・ソングライター、
ケイト・マクギャリルと
フォーク･シンガー、ロードン・ウェインライト３世との間に
生まれたルーファス・ウェインライトは
カナダの音楽的サラブレット。

ピアノを主体とするクラシカルなサウンドと
トラディショナル・フォークの融合した
華麗かつ美しいバック・トラックにのせて
ルーファスの美しい声が
のびやかに、ときに力強く
そして繊細に響く。

優しく包み込むようなデリケートな感覚、
甘くとろけるようなスウィートネス、
クラシックに根ざした
ジェントルなイメージ。

至福という名の音楽、
第二章の幕があがる。

中世の世界へ迷い込んだ羊よろしく
華麗な世界観にとまどい
やがて、ぎこちない舞を始める。

いつのまにか
頭の中で
中世のステップを踏んでいる。
