の３曲を聞いただけでの感想なのですが、参考になるかもしれないと思ってレビューします。今回レビューをするに至った理由は、他のサイトで1.を聞いたのみの方の否定的な意見が目立ち、そのレビューを見た人たちが購入（視聴）を控えるとするにはあまりにももったいないアルバムなのではないかと感じているからです。
たしかに1.はシンプルなロック（どっかで聞いた感じがするのですが思い出せません。）で、物足りなく感じる方が多いかもしれません。特に前作のシンプルな音作りに物足りなさを感じた方は、その傾向が強いのではないでしょうか？（私自身も1.を聞いた時、何か衝撃があったかというとあまりなかったです。）
しかし5.と6.はU2が今まで作ってきた曲の中でも最も優れた曲の１つだと感じました。5.はBONOの情熱的な歌唱とEdgeの立体的なギタープレイが印象的なポップソングです。特にブリッジの部分は圧巻だと思います。Warまでに思い入れの深い方は懐かしい感じすらすると思います。
また6.はイントロがYoshuaTreeのWhereTheStreetsHaveNoNameを彷彿とさせる非常に美しい楽曲です。最後にクライマックスを迎えるこの曲の構成には聞き終えた瞬間、鳥肌がたちました。この曲は9.11以降のニューヨークにインスパイヤされて書かれた曲みたいです。

素晴らしいアルバムです。
基本的には、前作「All That~」のシンプルなバンドサウンド路線を踏襲しつつも、エッジ主導で制作されたという本作では、彼の緻密なギターワークが冴えに冴えており、それにより生み出される個々の楽曲のドラマ性が前作より格段にアップしています。
「Joshua Tree」の頃のような壮大なスケール感を思わせる曲もちらほらと…。たまりません。

先行シングル「Vertigo」のような豪快に突き抜けたロックサウンドをアルバムに期待すると、やや肩すかしを喰らうかもしれません。
逆に、このシングルにピンとこなかった方でも、アルバムは聴いてみる価値があるのではないかと。
「Vertigo」は本アルバム中ではむしろ異色といえる曲で、あくまでアルバム冒頭の景気づけといった感じ。
２曲目以降には、落ち着いた雰囲気の中で叙情的に盛り上げるタイプのドラマチックな楽曲が連なり、感動的です。
強烈なインパクトやキャッチーさはなくとも、聴く毎にどんどん良さが染み出てくる曲ばかりなので、長く聴き続けられそうな気がします。
(3)、(5)、(8)、(10)をはじめ、傑作目白押しの本作の中でも、ラスト(12)の「Yahweh」は取り分け素晴らしいです。個人的には、「Acton Baby」以降で、最大の名曲だと思っています。

ボーナストラックは大した曲じゃない上に、アルバムの流れを台無しにしているので、国内盤・輸入盤で迷っている方には、「歌詞対訳が絶対必要！」という方でない限り、圧倒的に輸入盤をお勧めします（輸入盤BOOK付限定版には何故かこのボートラも収録されちゃってますが…）。

限定版に付属のDVDは、新曲についてのメンバーへのインタビューやアコースティック演奏、「Vertigo」のクリップなどで、トータル３０分強。
それなりに楽しめますが、「必見！」という程のものでもありません。
ちなみに輸入盤はリージョンフリー。しかも32カ国語での字幕入り。もちろん日本語も選べます。
よって、DVD付も輸入盤で全く問題なし！

このアルバムは世界No１ロックバンドによる新作、しかし、ここに流れているのは、どんな人でも聞くことのできる音楽だ。音響的な部分も含めてU2の面々が音作りにこだわり続けていることは、今までのアルバムもそうだったし今作もそうだと思う。しかし、結果的に聞こえてくるのは王道の８ビート、そして具体的なテーマを持った歌詞だ。U2がやっていることは基本的に変わっていないが、そのメッセージは、年を経るほどにより明快になり強度を増していると感じる。
そういえばZooropaを聞いたときも、AllThatYouCan't〜のときにも、U2は最新作が最高だと思った(笑)。進むことをやめない彼らに改めて敬服！
