~プライベートレーベルSKINTONEの記念すべき10作目。中世バロックの宮殿を思わせるクラシックと鋭く尖った現代音楽の融合が生んだ官能的なダンスミュージック。大胆なカットアップがヴァイオリンやオーケストラの音に潜む麻薬的な快楽をも感じさせる。うっすらと目をとじればドビュッシー、ホルストらの亡霊がエレクトロニクスによって蘇ったかのような瞬間もある~~。音に魂を感じさせる意欲作。~

5.0 out of 5 stars クラシック音楽でも、近代音楽でもないススムヨコタのワンダーランド, 2009/6/7
ススムヨコタの2004年作品「Symbol」。ブロガー仲間のオススメで知った。

本作はクラシック音楽とエレクロトニカの融合、とされるんだけど、実に不思議な質感。そもそもがススムヨコタはアシッド・トランスで世に出ているのに、これだけ幽玄で耽美なアンビエント音楽が出来ることに舌を巻いてしまう。

不思議な質感の構成要因のひとつに「打ち込みのなさ」。基本的にはビートを排除している前提で、クラシック音楽をサンプリングしているにも関わらず、ただのクラシック音楽のダイジェストになっていない。

そこにススムヨコタのカットアップ能力とアレンジ能力を強く感じさせ、彼オリジナルのアンビエント音楽たらしめている要素を感じる。

また、クラシック音楽の長所であり、短所に「ダイナミズムと尺の長さ」がある。ダイナミズムは、そもそもクラシック音楽はコンサート会場の臨場感で楽しむものであることと、その音のバランスや強弱までが音楽性に入れられるため、「電車の中でiPodで聴けない」ということが起こる。非常に聴きにくい。それがこの作品では解決されている。

同時に、クラシック音楽が一般に聴かれない理由は尺が長すぎることが大きく、例えば一般人がベートーヴェンの「運命」で想像するのは「ジャジャジャジャーン」であり、数時間構成の「あの感じ」は多くの人には共有されえない。それをこの作品は1曲の単位を2分〜4分単位にすることで乗り越えている。

つまり、ススムヨコタはクラシック音楽のPortability（持ち運びやすさ）を更新し、書籍におけるReadabilityと同レベルで、Listenability（聴きやすさ）を更新し、向上させているのだ。そういった意味でもっともっと広く聴かれてほしいと思う。

だが、そういった理屈を抜きに、単純にこの音楽の世界は美しい。曖昧の美のなかにまどろみ、たゆることが出来る。クラシカルもモダナイズも超越したワンダーランドがここに在る。非常に仰々しくなるけれど、そこまで言ってしまいたくなる音楽なのだ、これは。
