5.0 out of 5 stars ディメトリオヴォイスが堪能できる紙ジャケ版, 2005/5/21
クランプスレーベルより移籍、Ｐ．ｔｏｆａｎｉ(G)が脱退し、４人再編成。全体的に中近東民族風メロディ（ディメトリオの出身地ギリシャの古典劇での民族音楽が原点）、軽快なＪＡＺＺＲＯＣＫに加えて、ディメトリオの独自の発声手法が冴え渡る。（反復、１人対話、頬叩き？）アップテンポな曲からポップ、インプロビゼーション等、充実した内容。前作までに比べ、短めの曲が多いが、トータルコンセプトのせいか組曲の様に通して聴ける。２度目の評論家賞受賞。3rd、LIVEと同様、お勧め盤。

冒頭のデメトリオストラトス（Demetrio Stratos）の緊迫感と高揚感が溢れる、ヨーデルのような驚きのぶっ飛びヴォーカルに始まり、息をつかせない展開が最後まで続く。 30 年近くも前なのに、今聴いてもまったく古さを感じさせない。

演奏テク、曲の展開、面白さ、テンション、どれをとっても超一級。
いわゆる前衛的ジャズロックであり、民族的色彩も濃いのだが、演奏はどこまでも熱く、緻密で、「前衛的」という言葉から受ける取っ付きの悪い印象からはほど遠い。

デメトリオストラトス。

なんと表現すべきなのだろう。恐ろしいほどに研ぎすまされた声のテクニックと表現力。
エレキギターの革新者がジミ・ヘンドリックスなら、声の革新者はこの人以外に考えられない。

イタリア最強のジャズ・ロック・バンドにしてジャズ・ロックに留まらない
広く深い音楽性を誇るアレアの、オリジナル最終作。
パオロ・トファーニが脱退してギターレスとなり、かつアコースティック楽器主体であるにもかかわらず
（ベースも大半はウッド・ベース）この音の分厚さと攻撃性はどうだろう。
一番の聴き所「1.荒野の追放者」は凡百のハード・ロック・バンドが束になっても敵わない
ハイ・スピード・ナンバー。目まぐるしいシンセサイザーと気の触れた様なピアノ、歌いまくるドラム、
歌というより声による多彩な表現を試みたヴォーカル。これだけでも凄いが、
ベースとのコンビネーションが更に凄まじい。歌メロ部分では極端に音数が少なく、
逆に中間部ではどこに小節線があるのか分からないウネウネしたベースに合わせて
好き放題に弾きまくるのは神業に近い。
ユニゾン部分の2・2・2・3/8拍子はデイヴ・ブルーベックを参考にしたのだろうか。

他の曲でもアラビア風のフレーズが飛び出したり無茶苦茶フリーキーになったり、
「ワン・パターン」という言葉とは無縁の高度な実験性とポップさが両立している。
個人的には特にジュリオ・カピオッツォのドラムに耳を奪われる。
ジャズ・ドラミングを個性豊かに解釈し、完全にメロディ楽器として演奏しているのだ。
現在テリー・ボジオが試みている「ドラムによるメロディ」をジュリオは
とっくの昔にアレアの音楽に合わせて奏でてのけている。ラッシュのニール・ピアートも真っ青。

歌詞は、よくアレアと言えば「政治・反体制」という言葉で語られるが
このアルバムに関する限り（古いフォーマットのCDで確認したのだが）
人間の精神の奥深くを覗き込むような内容になっている。
特に、精神病棟に幽閉されているらしい殺人者の歌「5.精神錯乱」と
近親相姦の狂乱が描かれる「7.ライオの記念」にそれは顕著。

本作は、ジャズ・ロックという言葉では到底語り尽くせない、音楽史に残すべき作品。
惜しむらくは、今回の紙ジャケット再発ではイタリア語の歌詞対訳どころか
曲名の日本語題すらついてないこと。これは日本のリスナーには痛すぎる。
そして何よりも、発表直後のデメトリオ・ストラトス（vo,key）と
2000年のジュリオ・カピオッツォ（ds,per）の死去。これによって本作をライヴで聴くことは
完全に不可能になってしまった。
