　ユーロロック、いやロック史上稀に見る、彼らの代名詞となった歴史的名盤である。
　ストリングスとロックの融合という手法は結構実践されているのだが、ここまで完全に調和したという点では類を見ないのではないだろうか…などと豪語してしまう。
　甘美なストリングスと切ないVo、そして泣きのギター。一言でいうと、とにかく泣きのメロディがこれでもかというぐらい怒涛のように押し寄せてくるのである。まさしく圧巻である。
　ただ、後半は毛色が変わり、ジミヘンに捧げられた組曲の最後の｢Shadows｣や(弾きまくるジミヘン張りのディストレーションＧは聴きどころ！)、ラストのサイケな香りの漂う大作｢Nella Sala Vuota｣。本来当時の彼らが目指していたのはこっちであろう。
　コンチェルトグロッソ組曲は、元々映画のサントラとして作られたものであるため過剰なまでの泣きが見られるのかもしれんが、サントラということを念頭に置いたおかげでこの名盤が生まれたのだから、素直に喜ぶべきであろう。快挙としか言いようがない。
　まあ、ラストの２曲も彼ら独特の哀愁があり捨てがたいのだが、プログレなんかに興味のない方でも、コンチェルトグロッソ組曲を聴くだけのために買っても全然損はしないと思います。はい。
　って感じで難しいこと言わなくても、プログレだユーロだ関係なく、音楽が好きだと自負される方はぜひ聴いてください。…泣けます。

1971年発表のこのアルバムは＜クラシックとロックの融合＞（当時はこれが一番ナウいといわれてました）を意識してのっけからオーケストラの演奏が始まる雰囲気からスタートします。音合わせからタクトが鳴ってクラシックコンサートのはじまりはじまり。ストリングス、チェンバロの心地よい音色はさすがイタリアン・バロックの伝統があればこそ。特に「3.tempo CADENTE-ANDANTE CON MOTO」はスリリングなバイオリンからはじまりチェロの伴奏、ドラムのビート感、そして感情こめたコーラスを経てお決まりのチェンバロの締めとなっており、「う〜ん、バ・ロックだぁ」と感心いたしました。

しかしそれだけではないのですね。このバンドは。「4.tempo SHADOWS (per Jimi Hendrix)」ではまさにロック、まさにジミ・ヘンのギターリフ、荒々しくエキサイティングな演奏にロックバンドの真髄をみた思いです。

でも私が一番いいなと思ったのは「Nella salavuota, improvvisazioni dei New Trolls registrate in diretta」２０分以上のハードなインプロヴィゼーション、オルガン、ギターを駆使し、特にワビ・サビの境地にも通じるような自由闊達なフルート演奏は圧巻です。私には昔気質というか変な偏見？がありまして、演奏時間が長ければ長いほどプログレッシヴであると決めております。これぞプログレ、このアルバムの主題であるとの評価をいたしました。

泣き、泣き、泣きのオンパレード。私はNEW　TROLLSの熱狂的なファンではないのでバンドそのものについて詳しい事はわからないが、とにかくレコードでいうA面の泣きは半端ではない。ユーロロックとか叙情的とかそういう簡単な言葉では説明出来ないある意味究極の泣きがここにある。　実に素晴らしい。ギター、ヴァイオリンそしてボーカルが奏でるメロディに泣かない者はいないであろう。究極である。　サンプルでも少しはその雰囲気がわかるから1~4までをしっかり聴いて欲しいです。　このアルバムを教えてくれた和田誠さんに本当に感謝しています
