ターミナルデスクトップを利用するためにProfessinalにアップグレードしましたが、問題なく出来ました。
プレインストール済のメーカー製PC(Gateway)に使用しましたが、XP homeのCDは必要ありませんでした。
PDAからはVNCよりもProのターミナルの方が断然早いので入れてよかったです。

わたしのパソコンは一応メーカーからＶｉｓｔａ動作マシンとしてホームページに出ていました。それでＶｉｓｔａのベータや評価版Pre-RC1を入れましたが動くことは動きます。でもＤＶＤを焼くソフトのｍｙＤＶＤやＥａｓｙＭｅｄｉａＣｒｅａｔｏｒが動かない。（ｍｙＤＶＤはインストール段階で削除されＭｅｄｉａＣｒｅａｔｏｒはファイルに異常がある）など、既存のソフト（指紋認証なども）は対応しいてないものが多く、これだけでも買い替えには軽く数万いってしまいます。だからといってＸＰはＶｉｓｔａ出荷２年後にサポートが切れる（ＨＯＭＥはコンシュマー向けという事で）でＰｒｏにしました（Ｐｒｏはビジネス向けという事でプラス５年サポート対象）。それでＶｉｓｔａはアプリが落ち着くまで入れないでＸＰＰｒｏを入れてみました。インストール時間は約一時間。エラーも出ず快適に動いてます。既存のアプリも全て動作しますし、次のパソコン買い替えまで（今のは今年の４月製）ＸＰでいいのかと思っています。パソコンのバンドルソフトも問題なく動きますし、全く不自由していません。価格もステップアップという事で手に入れやすい価格でしたし。満足しています。

5.0 out of 5 stars MSのサポートはproがかなり長い！, 2004/10/10
案外知られていませんが、MSによる実質的なサポート終了日は、homeが2006年12年31日（メインストリームサポート）、proが2011年12月31日（延長サポート）です。無償のセキュリティ更新プログラム、Windows　Updateに対応する「延長サポート」が実質的に安心して使える期限でしょう（現状、homeは延長サポートなし）。
proはhomeより5年長く使えますので、新しいOSが出たら必ずupする人以外はproへのupがお勧めです！
