　白人女性最高のジャズ・シンガー，アニタ・オデイの絶頂期が１９５０年代のヴァーヴ時代であったことは衆目の一致するところ。
　魅力的なハスキー・ヴォイスと天衣無縫なジャズ・フィーリング，抜群無比のテクニックは，後続のクリス・コナーやジューン・クリスティの追随を許さないものがある。
　このアルバムは１９５８年，シカゴのジャズ・クラブ「ミスター・ケリー」におけるピアノ・トリオをバックにしたライヴ録音。
　同じ年に開催されたニューポート・ジャズ祭での彼女のステージが，映画「真夏の夜のジャズ」に収められており、たちまちのうちに観客を魅了していく様子は，中身の濃い演奏が続く同映画中でも印象的なシーンとなっている。
　脂が乗りきっていた頃の彼女のライヴ録音はこの１枚しかなく貴重。
