Darrel Fittonは「Blipsalt」の頃から10年以上もの間にわたって、本質的に変化していない。
シングルによってはダークなhiphopを導入したり、Jello名義でデトロイト寄りの瀟洒でクールな音を披露してみせてはいるが、それらはDarrelの音楽的な素養の幅広さを示すものではあっても、音楽性の変遷を示すものではない。
彼の探究心は、一貫して異世界的な深宇宙サウンドを電子音の渦の中から織り上げることのみに向いているように思う。
Darrelは、優れた表現者にしばしば見られるように、単一のモチーフやテーマから汲めども尽きぬ美しさを引き出す才能を持ったクリエイターであり、それゆえBolaは時に陳腐なほどステレオタイプな印象を与える一方で、他の何者にも似ていないという全くの独自性を備えている。
そういった意味において、Bolaの音楽はリスニング･テクノに始まり、IDMやエレクトロニカと呼ばれるに至った在野の電子音楽の潮流とは全く異なった空間から響いて来るものだ。
敢えてBolaを、そして“Gnayse”を評するなら、“反射率0.39”以降Vangelisが辿らなかった道を進んだ、鏡像のVangelisと呼び得るかもしれない。

相変わらずひんやりとした上物にぐちゃぐちゃとしたリズムが絡む作りです。
こう来たか！という驚きは全然ありませんけどやっぱりいいです。
美しい音を作るスキルは超一流なので極端なノイズものとかやってくれないかな。

テクノは90年代が全盛期だったと思う人、特にSunElectricの全盛や
Tanzmusikの1stが好きな人にオススメ。
ただし、それらを100点とするならば、これは80点くらいかなあ。
手堅い、そして得難いものはありますが。

現代エレクトロニカが大好きな人には物足りないかも。
