前作から3年の沈黙を経たジャミロクワイの通算6枚目となるアルバム。今までの路線を踏襲しつつも、まったく新しい世界を聴かせてくれそうな気配。

気が付けば、アシッド・ジャズ・ムーヴメントもひと昔。しかも、ジャミロクワイのひとり勝ちである。だが、彼らはこれまで一度も軸がブレずにフェイクな黒人音楽道を突き進み、それが今の勝因になっていることは間違いない。普通ならば、幸か不幸か“本物”の凄さに気づき、そっちに引っ張られながら失速してしがちなもの。だが、唯一ジャミロクワイだけは、邪道の限り(?)を尽くすことで逆に新たな“本道”を作り出したといえる。この新作もそう。ソウル、ファンク、ジャズ、ディスコなどの要素は感じられるものの、それはあくまでも彼ら流ポップの一部。そして、アルバムにはジャミロクワイという名の、ダンサブルにしてポップなサウンド宇宙が広がっているといっていいだろう。しかしながら、無邪気に踊れないのが21世紀の現実。今作も“愛”と“悲しみ”の2面性を持ち合わせたメッセージを含んでいるというが、ジャミロクワイの音楽のグルーヴの下、世界をひとつにすることはできるのか。 (兒玉常利) --- 2005年07月号

さすがジャミロクワイ！！！これはいままでのアルバムの中で最高に気に入りました♪どの曲を聴いても心地良い！退屈な倦怠感が皆無です。ヘビーなベース音とキャッチーなメロディに乗って、ジェイケイの透き通った声が冴え渡ります。オープニング、二曲目と段々テンポを上げて行き~３．４．５・・・と、アドレナリン放出のナンバーへと続きます。終盤は少しペースを落とし、メロウな曲にもうっとりです。従来の「♪ワウワウ~グ~ガガ~・・」のようなジャングルの自然を連想させるインスト曲は無く、全編に渡ってジェイの歌声が堪能できます。ファンならずとも楽しめる必聴アルバム間違いなしです☆

「Feels just like it should」でジェイ・ケイの声を加工してベース
にしたり、「Black devil car」ではジャミロクワイとしては珍しい
ディストーションギターを入れたりと、所々に新たな試みはあるものの
全体的には、いわゆる「ジャミロクワイ節」は健在です。

いちばん大きな変化は、レコーディングの手法で、一般的なライブレコ
ーディング方式から、音素材を録ってプロトゥールズに入れて編集する
方式に変えたそうです。こういう方式は下手をすると折角の生っぽさを
消してしまう恐れがありますが、ジェイ・ケイはむしろ逆で、生っぽさ
を強調し、音にパンチをきかせるためにこの方式にしたそうです。

その結果は吉と出たか凶と出たか、是非お聴きになって確かめてください。
ちなみにわたしは正解だったと思います。

ついに発売のJamiroquai最新作。
1stシングルとなる“Feels Just Like It Should”を
すでに聞かれた方も多いかと思いますが、
それ以外の収録曲は、以前の作品(特に3rdアルバム･“Travelling Without Moving”)のようなベースを効かせた、スピード感･リズム感に富んだ曲が主体となっています。
また、収録曲のSeven Days In Sunny JuneやTalulahなど、
メロディアスで癒されるようなものもあり、
バラエティ豊かで長く楽しめそうです。
昔のJamiroquaiの方が良かった！という人も満足できるのではないでしょうか。
