誰も書いていないので書くが、2004年10月30日づけBillboard　Hot Dance Music/Club PlayチャートでDevil Insideのリミックバージョンが一位になっている。2004年通年のチャートでも15位につける快挙だ。これだけの快挙にもかかわらず、「この程度」と評価されてしまうのが彼女のツライところか。個人的にはTHE CSUM FROG RADIO EDITのヨーロッパ的な陰鬱さがDevil Insideの歌詞とマッチしていてかなり好きだ。RICHARD VISSONのリミックを聞くと何故か８０年代イギリスのニューロマンティックなんて呼ばれていたダンスミュージックを思い出す。いいねこれって感じだ。売れる売れない関係なく、このトンがった感じでガンガン進んで欲しいと思う今日この頃。テクノダンス系が好きな人は絶対にお勧めのMAXI SINGLE。しかし振り返ってみると、アメリカじゃなくヨーロッパならダンスチャートを席捲してたんじゃないのか？

世界デビュー第一弾となるマキシシングルは、"Post"時のビョークを多分に感じられるエレクトロニカ・ポップチューン。オリジナルヴァージョンである(1)は、サビでの高揚感、そこに至るまでの低音も気持ちよく、近未来的ポップナンバーとしてはかなりの高レベル。ビートもメロディーも頭からこびりついて離れない、そんなインパクトがある。かっちょいい。注目のリミックスは計3名が名を連ねる。基本的にはハウスのリミックスだが、その中では、The Scum Frogが手掛けた(4)(7)(8)がいい。トライバル調のビートと高音のUtadaのボーカルとの融合が気持ちいい。目新しさが特段あるわけではないが、フロアでかかっていても違和感はない。個人的にはR&B風のリミックスが聞いてみたかった気もするが、まあオリジナルの出来がすこぶるいいので、これはこれで満足。

正直言って、USで流行りの今どきのR&B調のあたりの雰囲気をパクり過ぎた楽曲が多い新作アルバムは個人的には＝このスーパークールなナンバー＝以外は完全にどうでも良いと言った感じですが。USよりも、テクノ本家のUKの方で大ヒットしそうなダークなテクノナンバーです。USでは大人気のナンバーだそうですが、やはりと言うか、それは誰かのマネでは無く、何かしらオリジナルな事をすれば＝認められる＝事の証だと思います。歌詞の内容もシンプル＆ダイレクトな物で、彼女のこの曲の歌い方がテクノ的？でカッコイイ。基本的にシングルなのですが、収録全８曲とリミックスの数が多いのでミニアルバム的でお買得です。話題のクラブ向けのリミックスももちろん良い物も有りますが、個人的には、やはりゾクゾクと盛り上げる雰囲気がたまらない＝アルバムバージョン＝が一番好きですね。が、、３分５９秒程度とちと短すぎる。このアルバムバージョンの雰囲気のままで７分ぐらいのバージョンが欲しかったです。使い捨て、ものマネR&Bポップでは無く、今後、もっとこの様なオリジナルでシリアスな楽曲をUTADAが製作するのを期待しています。
