1は、新聞によって毎日報道されている大量の情報を1カ月という期間をとって、（1）政治（2）経済（3）環境（4）厚生（5）労働（6）教育・科学（7）裁判（8）社会（9）文化（10）スポーツ（11）国際（12）統計の12項目に分類し、新聞記事を内容ごとに関連付けて掲載しています。重要記事には解説や社説も加え、時事問題を理解しやすいように編集しています。
2は、毎号、巻頭で（1）「今月の10大ニュース」（2）「重要日誌」、巻末で（3）「時事用語の解説」（4）「知っておきたい時事英語」（5）「今月の記事の中から就職・昇任試験に出そうな時事問題」（6）「国語問題模擬試験」（7）「一般教養問題模擬試験」（8）「時事問題模擬試験」の8大企画を掲載、さらに、各種試験の時期には「試験対策特集」を組んでいます。書籍などとは違い、月刊誌であるため時事問題の鮮度は抜群に新鮮です。

大学院に入学後、忙しさのあまり新聞が読めない日があり、前の月の総括の意味を込めていわゆるスクラップブックタイプの縮刷版を読む目的で購入し始めた。

新聞各紙の重要な記事を編集し、それぞれの政治や経済などいくつかの分野ごとに編集しなおしている。単なる縮刷版とは異なり文字もほぼ新聞サイズなので読みにくいことはない。

新聞ダイジェストは特に政治、経済、国際関連の掲載が多くややすると他の分野（スポーツ）などどうしても少なくなる傾向がある。就職目的の人にはこれでも十分だろう。

惜しむらくは、１）社説などの掲載はあるがそれぞれの専門分野の方の投稿論文がない、２）訃報記事に関連した重要な人物に関する回顧記事がみられない点である。

就職志望者向けのテストが巻末にあるが、これが意外と楽しい。けっこう覚えていないものだと実感する。もっとボリュームがあれば、と思うのは無い物ねだりだろうか。

いずれにせよ、一般に就職志望者向けの雑誌と思われている同誌だが、ざっと時事を確認したい社会人や研究者がたこそ、手にとって眺めてみることをオススメしたい。
