スウェーデンのメロディックメタルバンド、ドラゴンランドの3rd。2004作
1st、2ndと、その疾走感と共にクサメロの嵐で、メロスピファンを狂喜させたこのバンド。
ついにキングレコードから日本でもメジャーデビューとなった。
Drも兼任していたVoは、新ドラマーを迎えたことで歌に専念して、
プロダクションの向上とともにサウンドには力強さが増している。
反面、マイナー調のクサメロがやや失われた感もあるが、バンドの成長とともに、
音にはメジャー感が出てきてしまうのは、ある部分では仕方がないところか。
序盤は意外にもミドルテンポの曲が続き、やや拍子抜けするが、後半は期待通り。
ミドル~疾走する5のキャッチーなメロディアスさは、このバンドの持ち味だし
ゲスト女性Voの導入や、7のサビでのシンフォニックな盛り上げなどはさすが。
日本盤ボーナスとしてX JAPANの「RUSTY NAIL」を取り上げていて、
(しかも日本語で歌っている!!)これもなかなかカッコいい。

前2作を遥かに凌駕する出来栄えです。
Xのカバーばかりが話題になってますが、それ以外の楽曲にも注目してもらいたいですね。
特にタイトルトラックのStarfallはDragonlandの最高傑作と言ってもいいほどの名曲です。

スウェーデンのメロディックメタルバンド、ドラゴンランドの3rdアルバム。日本初上陸ということもあり期待していて、その期待に8割がた答えてくれた。1曲目の「As Madness Took Me」のメロディックでありながらヘヴィな楽曲にノックダウンされ、2曲目「StarFall」ではまるでメロディアスハードのような美旋律に酔いしれ、3曲目「Calling My Name」から6曲目「Shores Of Our Land」にかけてのミドルテンポの曲を聴きまくり、7曲目「The Returning」で疾走!8~10曲目の「Book Of Shadows」シリーズを楽しみ、11曲目の噂の「Rusty Nail」で感動!…と盛り沢山なのになぜ8割かというと、問題はボーカルとギターソロあとボーナストラック「Sole Surviver」である。疾走少ない云々は別に気にならないのでいいのだが、どうにもボーカルが不安定でライブのとき危ないかも(裏返ったりとか)。またギターソロに似たような展開が多く、せっかくのいい楽曲が安っぽくなってしまいもったいない。ボーナストラックは疾走してはいるものの最初の「カッカッカ、カモーン」でやる気を失ってしまう笑ただそれ以外は前回よりあきらかに良くなっているので、さらなる期待をこめて星4つ。頑張れ!ドラゴンランド!ちなみにオススメは1.2.6.7とくに6は民族音楽的な匂いがする上に女ボーカル入りだから最高!是非聴いてください
