5.0 out of 5 stars キンクスの魅力が凝縮された１枚。, 2005/6/26
キンクスの中でこの作品が１番好き。傑作です。
これまでの作品と比べると、シンプルなサウンドになっています。
かっこ良さの加わった曲が増えましたが、相変わらず歌劇っぽい曲もあり、
ジャンル的に一筋縄にいかないキンクスの特徴がこの作品にはギュッと詰まっています。
注目は、ヒット曲「ローラ」「エイプマン」ですが、
それ以外にもレイの詩が印象的な「ディス・タイム・トゥモロウ」や、
ハードロックの原型的なナンバー「パワーマン」などと佳曲も多く、
コンセプトアルバムとしても成功していて完成度は高いです。
余談ではありますが、この頃からレイのヘナヘナな声色を発している歌声が聞けるようになります。

数多いキンクスのカタログの中で、たぶん僕が一番好きなアルバム。
「ゲット・バック・イン・ライン」は珠玉の名曲、有名な「ローラ」はキンキーなロックスピリットが溢れていてワクワクする。
「ディス・タイム・トゥモロウ」から「家路はるかに」の流れはほんとに素晴らしくて、
聴いてると実世界のわずらわしさからしばらく解放される。
このアルバムは、ブリティッシュ・ロックの異端キンクスの６０年代の伝説が、自分達の手によって最高のかたちで記録されている。
最近、「ムービン・アウト（ビリー・ジョエル）」とか、「ウィー・ウィル・ロック・ユー（クイーン）」とか、
ロックを題材にしたミュージカルが流行っているみたいですが、
このアルバムはそういうのにピッタリだと思います。
たぶんレイ・デイヴィスも、そういうのがやりたくてコレを作ったんだろうし。

書いてたら泣けてきました。
とにかくいいアルバムだから買ってあげて！

キンクスといえば、キンキー・サウンド。キンクスといえば、バラエティなサウンドに、メロディメーカー。そして、コンセプト・アルバム。キンクスの最高傑作といえば、「ヴィレッジ・グリーン」か「マスウェル・ヒルビリーズ」だけど、これは絶対誰でも気に入る。ナンセ、一番キンクスしか出来ない事が、たっぷり詰まってるから。聴いてみなさい。
