私的には、粗っ削りなサウンドが好みだが。この一枚には、ハードにパンク要素も伺える。 BORN TO BE …はカバー曲だが、カルトの方が断然格好いい!!とにかく、カルト・サウンドは大好きだ。

リリースから20年。究極のハードロックアルバムとして輝きを失わない不世出の1枚。
パンクバンドとしての前身を引きずりながらそこそこ名の知れていた"ザ・カルト"のフロントマン イアン・アストベリーとヒップホップ(ラップ)系のアーティストのプロデューサーとして名を上げていた リック・ルービンが、ツェッペリン、AC/DCなどの"70年代ハードロック"への想いをぶつけて生まれた作品。
このアルバムを機に、ザ・カルトはハードロックバンドとして広く認知され、バンドのスタイルを確立していく。
70年代ハードロックをザ・カルト流に消化した次作"ソニック・テンプル"の評価も高いが、このアルバムのハードロック純度は、多くのハードロックバンドの作品を凌駕している。
実験もファンサービスもマーケットへの配慮も自身の実績へのテライもなく、ただ純真にカッコいいハードロックを演ることに徹して、それが見事に成功している。
ただ、惜しむらくは40分程度で終わってしまうので、ちょっと物足りない。

８７年作品。リックルービンとの組み合わせで見事にブレイク。分厚いリフと余計な装飾をそぎおとしたスタイリングがすばらしい。まるでＡＣ／ＤＣみたいな重量級ずしんずしんサウンドができあがった。今聴いてもかっこいいことにかわりはない。パンチのきいたロックを御探しのかたにぜひ。（９点）
