Tony Toni Toneのメンバーとして一世を風靡してからもうどのくらい時が経つであろうか。未だにソウルの申し子とでも言わんばかりの活躍をしているのは才能の賜物とでも言うべきか。スタジオソロアルバムとしては2作目となる本作は、またもや傑作である。冒頭でいきなりJoiとのジョイントをぶちかまされたら堪らないでしょ。70年代の雰囲気をそのままに現代のビートに昇華した感じ。懐かしくもあり新しくもある。スモーキーなビートとメランコリックなメロディーとが完璧なまでに結びついた名曲(5)、Teedra Mosesを招いたメロディアスなミディアム(11)なんかの曲もかなりレベル高し。ジャケットを見てわかるように、アルバム自体もまるで映画を見ているかのような錯覚に陥るほどストーリー性が豊か。それを彩るゲスト陣も、Tony Toni Tone、Lucy Pearlとびっくりするような仕掛けも。アルバム通して聞いて浸りたい、そんな魅力溢れるアルバム。

前作はとにかく革新的なサウンドを、という感じで色々な曲がありましたが、今回は全体的にテンションもオシャレに高めで雰囲気も統一されてて、アルバム全体が見渡しやすい感じに仕上がっています。それに前回よりポップでキャッチー。すごく聞きやすいです。あと、心なしかラファエルの甲高い声も以前よりまろやかになっている印象を受けました。
誰にでも薦められる楽しいアルバムです。

　いかにも映画のオリジナル・サウンドトラック風のジャケットに「Blaxploitation」と題されたイントロ。これは自らを主人公にした伝記映画（それもコメディタッチ）風のコンセプト・アルバムだ。
　「Desperately」以外は3~4分台と演奏時間の短い楽曲を，フェードイン／アウトを多用しながら万華鏡のように鮮やかな音世界を紡いで行くあたりは，Tony Toni Toneで数々のヒットを放ったラファエルらしい，「さすが」の仕事ぶり。
　何処となくラテン風の憂いを帯びたメロディーのアップテンポ「Chic Like You」，シカゴ・ステッピンのようにメロウでダンサンブルな「Detroit Girl」，一目ぼれを「ライフルで撃たれた」と形容するアンニュイでソウルフルなバラード「Rifle Love」などがお勧め。クリスティーナ・ミリアンの「Dip It Low」の作者でもあるティードラ・モーゼスとの2曲のデュエットでは，甘く心地よくフレーズをループした習慣性の強い「I Want You」が白眉。大人の堕落ぶりをシニカルに描いた「Grown Folks」，ひたひたと忍び寄るかのようなスリリングなメロディーと淡々としたボーカルがニヒルな「Desperately」（日本盤のみのボーナス・トラック）もいい。
　こんな良質のアルバムを聴く度に，もう一度，Tony Toni Toneを再結成してくれないものかと思うのは僕だけだろうか。

アルバムの収録曲で一番気に入ったのが　デトロイト　ガ-ル　前作も良かったけど　今作も期待を裏切らない内容だと思います
