すみだトリフォニーでのライブということで，おそらくは日本盤に限っての拡大盤リリースと解釈可能であろう。これは日本のファンにとっては誠に嬉しい限りの英断と言えるが，CDとして聴いた場合，2枚組がいいのか本国盤のように1枚ものがいいのかは微妙である。演奏としては明らかにDisc2(特に後半)に収められた曲の方が優れており，Disc1には演奏に若干の生硬さが感じられる。また，プロデューサー（Brad本人である）としての視点に立てば，ともにNick Drake作の"Things Behind the Sun"で始まり，"River Man"で締める米盤の選曲，配列の方がおそらくは望ましかったのではないかと思える。収録された演奏はそれぞれ優れているものの，実際のライブと異なる鑑賞音楽としてのCDメディアでは，ピアノ･ソロで2枚組は冗長な感はぬぐえないというのが正直なところである。Brad Mehldauのコンプリート・コレクターを目指す評者は，立場上迷わず国内盤を購入したが，一般的なリスナーには米盤を推すべきと考える。

　本当に音の美しいジャズピアノソロアルバムです。最初のIntroからあまりの美しい音にノックアウトさせられてしまいました。特に"恋人と別れる50の方法"と"モンクスドリーム"の圧倒的演奏に感激。キース以後・・と言われるだけあって、初めから終わりまであって独特なジャズピアノ演奏が聴くことができます。

うーん･･･これはジャズなのか。聞いていてまず思ったことは
これはジャズなのかクラシックなのか、という点である。
もちろんブラッドメルドーはジャズピアニストだか、この作品はクラシック寄りと考えてしまう。期待して聞いたパラロイドアンドロイドもLargoで見せたあの素晴らしい曲作りに比べれば私としては物足りない気持ちがある。
もちろん、ライヴ版だしソロピアノ版ということである程度の覚悟はしていたが、どうも腑に落ちない。
それが鬼才というものだろうか。
