　タブーとも言える元パープルのイアン・ギランとの合体。ロニーと言い、ビッグ・ネームであれば誰でもいいのか？との疑問も湧いたものだが、これがなかなかどうして、想像を超えるマッチングです。
　ギランは１曲目から、壊れたか？狂ったか？と思われるハッスルぶり。一方でtr7「BORN AGAIN」のように暗黒世界を情感たっぷりに歌い上げたり。サバスの世界観を壊すどころか、ある意味、ロニーよりもハマっているとも言えそうです。
　ギランにばかりスポットが当る作品ですが、リズム隊２人（ｷﾞｻﾞｰ･ﾊﾞﾄﾗｰ、ﾋﾞﾙ･ﾜｰﾄﾞ）の復帰と活躍も見逃せません。躍動感溢れるベース・ランニングと重く沈むドラムが、作品の雰囲気作りに大きく貢献しています。
　アイオミのギターは金属的でノイジー。クレイジーなギランのヴォーカルとの相性も最高です。
　賛否両論あるようですが、中毒になるか、全く反応しないか、聴く人によって両極端の作品かもしれません。勿論僕は中毒です。

　P.S.tr6「DIGITAL BITCH」はパープルの「HIGHWAY STAR」へのオマージュか？クリソツです。

サバス最大の問題作。当時ディープパープル再結成の為ギランを解散したイアンギランだったが、話がなかなかまとまらず腰掛け的にサバスに参加、できたアルバムがこれというわけだ。あくまで暗いサバスサウンドに明るいイアンのヴォーカルがのっかるのだ。賛否両論なのもうなずけよう。どちらかというとオリジナルサバス信奉者はこのアルバムを認め、ロニー時代からサバスを聴き始めた人はこれを認めない傾向にあるようだ。私は結構好きなんだけどなー。でもライブでスモークオンザウォーターをやっちゃったのには閉口した。
このアルバムにネオンの騎士を期待してはいけません。音や曲調はかつてのサバスのように暗ーい感じです。サボタージュに近いかな。この作品はイアンギランがサバス風のサウンドを取り入れたソロアルバムだと思えばいいのです。すると結構いいアルバムに思えてきますよ。星四つなのはジャケットにブラックサバスとあるからさ.(爆笑!)

イアンギランが参加した唯一のBLACK SABBATH至上最も異端的なアルバムと言えるでしょう、しかしアイオミのギターに乗せて歌うギランのヴォーカル!!全てが凄く邪悪の塊のような音に聴えるのだ!!まさにBLACK SABBATH!!その名に恥じぬ邪悪さ!発売当初は《BLACK&PARPPLE》なんて嘘ぶいたような発言を本人達もしていて、これを聴いたファン達も賛否両論あったがBLACK SABBATH至上最も邪悪なアルバムだといまだに思ってます、俺はレコードで聴いてこのアルバムから発せられる『邪悪』さにノックアウトされました。
昨今では北欧BLACK METAL勢が勢いもありカリスマ的バンドも出現しているが、BLACK SABBATHのアルバムBORN AGAINの邪悪さは恐らくは北欧勢もかなり影響を受けているのでは?と思わせられる一枚だと思います。
