Omar Sosaはキューバ生まれ、スペイン在住のピアニスト。全曲本人のオリジナルです。キューバのジャズというと楽天的、開放的な音楽をイメージされる方が多いのではないでしょうか。もちろん本作にもそうした雰囲気はありますが、全体の印象はもっとロマンティック。フレーズからはドビュッシー~サティにいたる流れを感じます。そこにファンキーなリズムが絡み合い、至福の音空間が展開されています。「今」のジャズを聴きたい方に、ぜひお勧めです。

パキートドゥリベラのクラリネットソロが映える、キューバンの心地よいリズム、そしてオマールの醸し出す雰囲気、これはかなりいいです。

多国籍なミュージシャンが参加し、
毎度、トンガッタ音楽を聞かせてくれるオマール・ソーサ。
このアルバムでは、
Dhafer Youssefらマグレブ(今回はチュニジア)との共演。
しかし、思ったほどマグレブ臭はしない。
かといって、典型的なラテンジャズでもない。
まさしくオマール・ソーサの音楽。
いつもなら、聞き終わるとクタクタになってしまうのだが、
今回のMULATOSは聞きやすい。
正直、ビックリ。
個人的には、
Arenio RodriguezとThelonious Monkにささげられた８曲目のL3zeroがいいなぁ。
