 『Great American Songbook』シリーズ第3弾の最初の曲をまともに受け取ることは少々困難だ。ロッドはこの「Embraceable You」で、自分の恋愛遍歴が“寂しかった”ことについて哀れっぽく歌っている。だが、『Stardust...Volume III』の1曲1曲は、これまでのアルバム同様に手堅いものだ。居心地がよかったり、ホットだったりで、ここに収められた曲が今でも力を放っていることを、楽しく思い出させてくれる。「S'Wonderful」は誇らしげに耳に残り、ロッドのハスキーな声は平均的なリスナーには退屈だと感じるかもしれない方法で、「Isn't It Romantic」の蜘蛛の巣を払うように歌っている。このアルバムはまた、ここで声がかかった有名な仲間たちが貢献したお陰で、聞き逃せないコンビネーションとなっている。エリック・クラプトンは「Blue Moon」でクラプトンらしいギターを聞かせ、スティーヴィー・ワンダーは「What a Wonderful World」（邦題「この素晴らしき世界」）で自由にハーモニカを吹いているが、何よりも突出しているのは沈むことのないドリー・パートンとデュエットした「Baby It's Cold Outside」、そして不屈のベット・ミドラーとのデュエット「Manhattan」で決まり。（Tammy La Gorce, Amazon.com）

ジャズ以外のジャンルのシンガーがジャズのスタンダードを歌うという企画は
リンダ・ロンシュタットやウイリー・ネルソンなど珍しくもないのですが
続けざまに３枚も出るところは今までに例がありませんね。
ジャズ一辺倒の私はこのシリーズ以外でロッドのレコードを聴いたことがありません。
しかし，確かにイイ。うまいのかといえば決してそうではない。
むしろ何を歌ってもワンパターンで同じに聴こえます。でも，イイ！
たまたまジャズのスタンダードを歌ったところが当ったわけですが
おそらくシャンソンを歌っていても同じようになったかも。
結局，何を歌ってもロッド・スチュワート以外の何者でもないのですね。
これってサッチモ的偉大さではないでしょうか。
全然飽きないどころか，ますますゴキゲンです。

そして忘れてならないのはアレンジの巧みさとバックのゴージャスさです。
このシリーズを聴いているとＮＹのペントハウスにいるようなリッチな気分になります。
一体，この柳の下には何匹のドジョウがいるんでしょうか？
早くも次の作品が待ち遠しく思われます。

来ました。聴きました。とっても良いです!!
スティービーのハーモニカでのフューチャーや、クラプトンのギターでのフューチャーは聞いていたのですが
他にも、BLUE MOON(クラプトンのフューチャーしている曲)ではJoe Sampleが、
'S WONDERFULとI CAN'T GET STARRWDではDave Grusinがピアノで参加しています。
その彼らがバックの１ピアニストに徹していて、でもやっぱりピアノの音やフレーズはきらきら光っていて･･･
沢山のゲストの素晴らしい演奏や歌にも、Rodのボーカルはまったく引けをとらずすごい存在感です。

'S WONDERFULもグレアメI、IIを聴いて次にRodに是非歌ってほしい、と思っていた曲で、
聴いてやっぱりピッタリ。っとうっとりする出来なのですが、
What A Wonderful Worldは、ルイ･アームストロングのイメージが強すぎて、選曲されていると聞いたときは
ちょっと“うん？”と思っていたのですが、聴いてビックリこれもまた100%Rod。初めからRodのための曲だったかのように気持ち良さ気にRod節で歌い上げています。他の曲もどれもとってもRodな曲です。
グレアメIもIIも良かったのですが、IIIになっても飽きが来るどころか素晴らしい出来です。
Rodはもちろん、GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOKというこのアルバム自体、確実にバージョンアップしています。

　ボーナストラックに惑わされ国内版を買ってしまったが、曲は極め付きの名曲ばかり、ある意味では出来不出来は直ぐ分かってしまう。　
　豪華な共演、驚きの一言。　スティーヴィー・ワンダーのハーモニカの素晴らしさ、とにかくどのトラックでも満足。　ロンドンのロイヤル・アルバート・ホールに飛んで行きたい、男の渋さを楽しんでもらいたい、酒と共に・・・。
