宇宙をテーマに、人の愛、業、宗教や人種、命の根源を考えさせられる深い作品。原作の重厚な物語を、様々なオリジナルキャラクターの人間模様を複雑にからませながら、実に上手く構成された全２６話の物語は見るものに感動を与え、私たちに「生とは何か」を考えさせるきっかけをくれる。
キャラクターの性格については原作ファンだと最初は「んん？」と思う部分も多いが、ストーリーを追うごとに納得できる作りになっている。
個人的には、人生で最も好きな、影響を受けた作品である。

１ヶ月ごとに発売された「プラネテス」のＤＶＤシリーズで、これほど待ち時間を長く感じたものはありません。
宇宙防衛戦線のフォン・ブラン号襲撃からクライマックスまでという、最も激しく、最も感動できる内容です。
漫画ファンには、後半かなり詰め込みすぎているような雰囲気を感じるかもしれませんが、
２度目３度目に見たときには、そんなものは感じなくなります。
本当に見るたびに味が出る良い作品です。しばらく中毒になるでしょう。

　いよいよ最終巻となる第9巻。前巻に引き続きテロ事件が描かれ、その極限状態の中でハチマキの「決意」とタナベの「愛」が試される第24話。
　彼らの「決意」や「愛」が本当に口先だけのものだったのか。何かを変えられるのか。誰かを救えるのか。それがじっくりと語られる第25~26話。
　そして、観ているこっちが忘れているような脇役のキャラクターまで「その後」がきちんと描かれるエピローグ。

　観ている間まったく気が抜けない、でも観終わった後とても清々しい気持ちになる、見事な完結編でした。

　人は弱い。迷ったりつまずいたり。怒りや憎しみや孤独に呑み込まれそうになったり。それでも人は前に進むことができるはずだというメッセージを、ドラマとしてきちんと描ききったスタッフ・キャストに拍手。

　全編を通じて、ストーリー、作画、演技、音楽と何もかもが素晴らしい、何度もくり返して観るに値する作品だと思います。
