   カニエ・ウェストが書くアップテンポのクラシックなソウルの曲を考えたら、このプロデューサー/ラッパーが伝統志向のR&Bシンガーを最初のレーベル・プロジェクトに選ぶのも驚きではない。レジェンドはフィラデルフィアのごった返した70年代にこだわったネオ・ソウルのシーンにまず登場し、ニューヨークへ向かって、スタジオでカニエ・ウェストの右腕となった。ウェストのポップな粋がレジェンドにも効果的に反映されている。多くのコンテンポラリーR&Bのレコードがシンガーの声とレベルが低い曲でも歌いこなす能力にかかっているが、レジェンドとウェストはきびきびとした「Number One」のように本物の曲を作っている。こちらは恋に夢中になったウェストが“俺の心は下半身とは関係なく動く”とはもはや信じていないとつぶやいている。次の曲、スヌープ・ドッグの愛の誓い以上に本気のようだ。そしてたとえメロディーが貧弱でも、ウェストは腹に響くようなベース・ラインを仕込んでいるために、ヒップホップの感覚で本アルバムはあまりにもレトロな郷愁へと流されていかずに済んでいる。

   そうは言っても、レジェンドはプロデューサーの言うなりに歌っているだけではない。彼の声はすぐさま聞き分けられるわけではないし、アンソニー・ハミルトンのような苦悩も、ディアンジェロのようななめらかさもない。だが、抑制を効かせることへの天賦の才能は別格だ。ドラッグの暗喩としてのセックスを示したアルバム・タイトル曲は新鮮とは言い難いが、レジェンドは聞きやすくスムーズに歌えてはいるので、取り立てて問題はない。寝室へ誘うような曲調は使い古されている。このように遅れてやってきた感のあるアルバム、あとはこちらがどのような場面で聞くかにかかっている。（Keith Harris, Amazon.com）

いやあ。感動しました。彼の歌唱力！
普通じゃなさ過ぎる！何度聞いても飽きないこの声は
すばらしい。ここ何年か全世界が待ち焦がれていたアーティスト
といっても過言ではないと思います。
R&B、Hiphop、JAZZを聞かれる方なら是非このCDは買いです。

レヴューの評価が高かったので、試聴もせずに買ってみたのですが、満足です。個人的には、洋楽もそこまで好きにならないアルバムも結構多いのですが、これはかなりすばらしかったです。レヴュアーに感謝です。あと、ジョンレジェンドは、今年ずいぶん賞をもらったようでしたね。この内容を考えると当然かと思われます。誰が聞いても結構いいアルバムだと感じられるのではないでしょうか。

視聴マシンで聞いてみて、即買いしたアルバム。１曲目の冒頭から２~３曲目にいたる展開は、思わず引き込まれずにいられない。ヒップホップテイストの強いR&Bが好きなリスナーには物足りないかもしれないが、トラディショナルなタイプを好む人にはお勧め。前半のドラマティックな展開にも後半のシンプルな曲調にも合う声が非常に魅力的。個人的には、８や１３のようなアコースティックな曲の方が、彼本来の魅力が活きていると感じる。特に、８はエモーショナルな歌が非常に良い。
