Album Description

Only few current bands cover such a broad spectrum of musical influences as the Swedish cult prog metal rockers, Pain of Salvation, who are lead by Daniel Gildenl, one of the most creative musicians of the Swedish music scene. The long expected Be album, which compositions were entirely performed live in a series of special multimedia concept concerts in Sweden, is now completely studio recorded and ready for release. Although the titles are in Latin, the album is in English.

スウェーデンが誇る鬼才、Daniel Gildenlowが放つ通算5枚目のオリジナル・アルバムは''神''と呼ばれる''存在''が主題の物凄いコンセプトアルバムです！

ナレーション等が入って多少聴きにくいところがあるかもしれませんが、今までとは違ってテーマは具体的でわかりやすいとは思います。

しかし、なんと言ってもすばらしいのは表現力豊かで多彩なDanielの楽曲です！
ProgHardリスナーなら垂唾モノの変拍子リフあり、かとおもえばエスニックな、民族色の強い曲で聴かせてくれたり…etc.と、集中して聴けばいくらでも味が出てくる魅惑の76分間。
全体的にはダークな印象ですが、このテのコンセプトアルバムにありがちな単調さ、退屈さは感じられません。楽曲もコンセプトに呑まれてません。

そして、このアルバムでかなりの頑張りを見せている鍵盤坊主、Fredrik Hermanssonの楽曲、Iter Impiusはこのアルバムの中でも強烈な存在感を示して終焉に導きます。
Danielの歌唱は凄まじい感情の入りっぷりで、またピアノと共に聴かせるギターも(どっちかわかんないけど)泣かせてくれます。
ぜひ密室でヘッドフォンを大音量で耳に押し付けて聴いて下さい(笑)。

「PERFECT ELEMENT」である意味トップランナーになったPAIN OF SALVATION、全体として叙情派や技巧派という昔のカテゴリーを違う意味で、またしても大作でかつ傑作を創りあげてしまった。

タイトルの「BE」はhuman beingのBE、人類の根源までいきついてしまった。である。大体こういうテーマだとオペラチックになるだろうの予想はまたも裏切られたのである。「remedy lane」後のライブ盤での「アコースティックへの確信はこのアルバムに生かされている。

曲だけではなく、言葉、SEを巧みにブレンドして、映画音楽のような世界観、それはPOSの十八番、数々のコンセプチュアルなアルバムを創造した彼等の完成型ともいえるかもしれない。十数年前に初めて聴いたクイーンズライクのオペレーションマインドクライムでの衝撃に近い。もはやプログレメタルという凡庸な内容や中途半端なカテゴリーではなくインテレクチュアルロックであることもまた真である。

多少定番化してきているギターフレーズもあまり気にはならない。それが成長なのかもしれないが、課題は次のステップでクリアされるであろう。ヴォ-カルの存在感がさらに出てきている、これはライブ（ツアー）によるものかもしれない。

SEの日本語がリスナーとしてサプライズであった。

これまで独自の内向的世界観を継承してきたPOSですが、その世界観に新たなテイストを取り入れ始めた雰囲気が本作に漂っています。若干エスニックな匂いがします。例えるなら、ANGRAのHolly LandやDREAM THEATERのFalling into Infinityに相当するのでしょうか。
これはこれで良しなのですが、POSの入門編としてはオススメしません。ということで星４つです。
