ボーイソプラノというとクラシック曲を歌うウィーン少年合唱団をイメージするかもしれないですが、リベラは違います。

新しい世界、新しい思想という意味の
ニューエイジ、
神秘的で明確なメロディがなく、幻想・空間・環境をイメージさせるようなジャンルですが、リベラの音楽はまさにそれ。

この『フリー』ではアヴェ・ヴェルムという曲が一番好きで携帯の着うたにもしています。原曲は教会で歌われたりする賛歌らしいですが、
アレンジされていて、リベラの中でもテンポが良くリズミカルで、途中途中で入るソロのアアア〜という高い声も良い感じです。

良い曲ばかりですが、
他には「生まれ来る日」「ステイ・ウィズ・ミー」「自由」が良いです。

元リベラの一人が、ＩＣＯというゲームでエンディング曲をソロで歌っていますので、リベラが好きな方は聴いてみてください。
ＩＣＯのＨＰの最初の画面で流れてます。曲名は『you were there』です。

このリベラというボーイズ・クワイヤの透明感溢れる歌声にはまりました。
ボーイソプラノ特有のノン･ビブラートで硬質の声は、人生において少年期の限られた時代しか持ち得ない宝物のような一瞬の輝きを持っています。
人の歌声はもともと「癒し」という側面を持っていますが、少年達が織なす奇跡のようなハーモニーは、様々な俗世の悩みを遠くへ追いやる特効薬のような存在なのかもしれません。

１曲目の「生まれくる日」は、冒頭のユニゾンからハーモニーに移った瞬間、音がパッと青空に散ったかのような広がりを見せてくれました。
２曲目の「スティ・ウィズ・ミー」ソロと合唱の掛け合いが見事で、イギリスの伝統的な音楽をベースに現代的なサウンドがおおっているような音楽でした。

３曲目の「ヴォーカ・メ」の、ボーイズ・クワイヤの織なす密集和音の連続は、少年達の持っている音楽的特徴を生かした楽曲です。ペルゴレージのスタヴァト・マーテルを彷彿とするような雰囲気を全編に湛えていました。イギリスの教会の聖歌隊の歴史と伝統を感じることが出来ました。

５曲目の「アヴェ・ヴェルム」の中世的なサウンドは、イギリス民謡のベースでもあり、不思議な香りのする曲ですね。合唱王国イギリスの伝統をここでも確認した思いです。

イギリスが生んだ作曲家ホルストの「木星」から「誓い~ジュピター~」というカバー曲が生まれました。平原綾香の大ヒットでこの原曲が一躍注目されましたが、ここでも、ステキな「ジュピター」を聴くことが出来ました。

とても親しみやすい現代合唱の側面と、ヒーリング・ミュージックという側面を持っていますが、大人の持っているあざとい感情を捨て去り、音楽として昇華したものが、リベラの透明感あふれるサウンドの本質なのでしょうね。

ご存知の方もいらっしゃると思いますが「千の風になって」のリベラバージョンが、
このアルバムの『いつもあなたのそばにいるから（Do not stand at my grave and weep）』です。
私はNHKハイビジョン特集『千の風になって』を見て初めてこの曲を知りました。
その中で、親しい人を亡くした人の心をリベラの済んだ歌声が癒していました。
そして大切な人との別れも、絶望や悲しみだけではないという事を教えてくれた気がします。

作詞者不詳のこの詞について調べながら、曲を聴いてみるといいかもしれませんね。
