長靴下のピッピみたくすてきな天才ロリータバンドのキュートなショータイム
・・・・っていう設定のコンセプトＣＤかと錯覚しそうなんですが、
Smooshは正真正銘、１２歳と１０歳の自作自演（！）姉妹デュオでございます。
「彼女達は子供にしてはグレイトなんじゃない、ただ単にグレイトなんだ！」と評されたといいますが、
それどころか「Bottlenose」「The Quack」では子供の声の特徴が上手に活かされている！
そのセンスはどこで学んできたの~？？とただもう唖然とするしかないデス。
ちゃっかりメロディーも美だったりするし~。

遊びをせんとや生まれけむ。
このアルバムの中には大人が忘れがちな、皮肉のない本当の遊び心いっぱい。
日本の小学生アイドルが大人の恋愛を歌うような不自然さではなく、
１２歳と１０歳のそのままの姿は、子供ながら本当に音楽をわかってらっしゃる。
自然に受け入れているというべきか。

「なんとなくピアノを弾いていると、気になるフレーズが出てきて、
　おもしろそうって思えば本腰を入れて作曲するの」
って言ってることはしっかりプロアーティストなアーシャちゃん（姉）。
完全に子供の声なのに大人びたアーシャの歌い方を聴きながら、
自分が１２歳の時「絶対に周りの大人たちより自分のほうが賢い」と思ってたことを唐突に思い出したのでした。

ガーリー好きはもちろん、楽しいことが好きな人なら誰でもマストです。

シアトルのインディ・ロックシーンで
注目を浴びる姉妹ユニット、スムーシュ。

12歳のオウシー（キーボード）と10歳のクロエ（ドラムス）による
驚異のティーンエイジ・ユニットである。

たかが小学生とバカにできない、抜群の音楽センスで
キーボード+ドラムスというシンプルな編成による
新鮮な曲づくりをおこなっていて、
オウシーのキュートなヴォーカルもチャーミング。

ピュアでフレッシュな躍動感に満ち、
その新鮮さは、衝撃的ですらある。

スリーター・キニー、デス・キャブ、
キャット・パワーを始め、
パール・ジャムのフロント・アクトも務めている
歴としたプロフェッショナル。

インディ・ロックシーンの強者が
彼女達の才能とセンス、可能性を見抜き
サポートしている。

ちなみにジャケット・アートは
彼女たちの8歳の妹が書いたものらしい。

バンドの二人の年齢が１２歳と１０歳というので、そりゃあテクニック的には頑張ってても、どこか真似っ子みたいな雰囲気が出てくるのだろうなあという予想を裏切り、完全に自分たちの音楽を奏でられているところがまず爽快だった。確かにシアトルという地の音ではある。しかし、よくぞここまで吸収した上で、しっかりと咀嚼できたなという部分に驚かされる。この自分たちの快楽に沿った音の抜けの良さを知っているというか。それでいて、ピュアな子供らしさも当然、残っているわけで、この時点でもおもしろいし、先々も期待させられるそんな盤になっている。
キーボードとドラムというシンプルで特異な構成で、抜けの良いロックをやっているなんて、かなり奇跡的なことだと思う。
