5.0 out of 5 stars いつだってそばにいてくれる音楽, 2005/1/24
GUKを知ったのはこのアルバムで今から４年前
それからもーうCDがすりきれるくらい聴きまくりました。
とにかくあまたのエモバンドを聴く前に、このアルバムを聴いてほしい、いやきかないと損すると言い切ります！

なんといっても疾走感と切なさのあふれる、それでいて男気のあるメロディが全編を貫いていて、泣けるやら元気が出るやら。捨て曲なんてありません。
そしてやっぱエモ！という歌詞。一曲目のholidayなんて思い当たる経験がありまくりで、失恋のときに何回この曲を聴いたか。

いつだってこのアルバムが側にいてくれる、だから大丈夫って気持ちにさせてくれるアルバムです。それでいてメソメソせずに、男らしく励ましてもくれるかっこいいアルバムでもあるんです。

もう何回聴いたことか。

この作品が良いのは言うまでもないから、
あえて注目して聴いてほしい所があるとすれば、それぞれの音のセンスの良さ！
　シンプルにみえて実際はかなり才能に溢れてると思う。

歌声やギターのメロディー、さり気無いベースの面白さはもちろん最高で、
特に私が好きになったのは、ドラムと鍵盤の音作り。
　大抵ドラムとかはリズムを刻んで少し変えて叩いて、
　それだけ聴いていれば退屈になってくるけど、
　GUKのライアンは例えシンプルにしたとしても、
　音作りが物凄く面白いし上手い！
生ライブで見たライアンのドラムにはやられた。
ドラムの上手い人は他にもたくさんいると思うけど、
このドラムの面白さはBLINK182のトラヴィスにも通じる程に聴いてて何よりも楽しい。
　キーボードのジェイムスもシンプルながら必ず曲の雰囲気や感情を突き刺す音を出してくる。

　GUKの魅力は人それぞれあると思うけど、
メンバー全員の個性が目立ちながらも一つの曲として凄く良いバランスが取れている。
　そして何よりもメロディーや曲の雰囲気を大切にし、
お互いの信頼関係が聴いている側にも伝わってくることだと思う。

余談ですが、このジャケットと３rdアルバムの「on a wire」のジャケットを手がけたのは同一人物で、
travis millardというアーティストらしいです。
もし興味があるならfudge factory comicsという名の公式サイトを見てはどうでしょう。
voのmattもリスペクトしているそうです。

THE GET UP KIDSの2ndアルバム。
これは前作より飛躍的に成長を遂げています。
特に演奏力。
エモ的なアルバムとしてもベストですし、ジャンルを超えたメロディセンスがあります。
勢いあり、泣きあり。
「Holiday」、「Action&Action」、「Out Of Reach」が好き。
