このシリーズについて

   発売から30年以上が経過した「日本で最初の本格的ダイキャストミニカー」。子どもが遊びやすく、そろえやすく、手に持ちやすい、という3本柱を発売以来守り続けている。材質は亜鉛ダイキャスト。小さい子どもでも無理なく持つことができ、かつ、手ごたえを感じる寸法を採用。本物の車のように見えるデザインを実現しつつ、バックミラーなどの突起物は安全性を考慮してデフォルメされている。
   実車に合わせて常にモデルチェンジを行いながら、120種類を目安にラインアップの見直しを行っているため、常に新鮮さを失わないのも魅力。
   レールやブロックなどの『トミカランド』をはじめ、店舗や建物をリアルに再現している『トミカタウン』と、近未来を表現する『トミカワールド』などの情景部品も充実している。自分で創り上げたコース、街や世界の中で、クルマや電車を走らせることができ、遊び方の可能性を無限に広げていくことができる。

このタイプでは、パトカータイプとレーシングカーのタイプが発売されています。
先日、絵本付きのものが発売されましたが、違いは以下の通りです。（）内が絵本付きの説明です。
・ボディーカラーはシルバーというよりグレー（シルバーメタリック）
・タイヤのデザインはホイールがしっかり（単純な輪っか）
・ヘッドライトはグレーのパーツ（クリアパーツ）
・ドア後部の窓はなにもなし（クリアパーツ）
