リマスター効果のとても良く効いた好盤です。
元々固い音色では有りましたが、初期ドラマーの頑張りが冴えて聞こえます。
その分、弦楽器隊のバッキング音が消えてしまうんですが。

リマスターの音源は、CD用ミックスからの様で、
Voのエコーがとてもきつく掛かっており、
歌詞を繰り返して聴いてる気がするくらいです。
LP（オリジナル・ミックス）の方をリマスターして欲しかったですね。

楽曲に関しては、好盤なのは間違い有りません。

　ジョーイ・テンペスト(vo) 率いるヨーロッパは、いわゆる「北欧メタル」の先駆けとなったグループである。「北欧」という地域から連想する寒々とした空気、湖や森に囲まれた神秘的なイメージを損なわないロックで、ここ日本から火が付いたアーティストとして知られる。

　当時、配給を手掛けていたビクターより、「Seven Doors Hotel」がシングル・カットされて大ヒットしたことから、徐々にその存在が世界に広まって行った。2nd.「Wings Of Tomorrow」では早くもEPICによる世界ディールを獲得したくらい。このことはメンバーも非常に感謝しており、以後、日本と（バンド）「ヨーロッパ」は特別な関係で結ばれている、とさえ表現されるようになった。

　殆どの曲をひとりで手掛けるジョーイが、バンドの絶対的な中心人物であるが、演奏隊も皆上手く、特に美形のギター・ヒーロー：ジョン・ノーラムの存在は重要だ。4th.アルバム「OUT OF THIS WORLD」が美しいサウンドの良作だったのにヒットしなかったのはジョン・ノーラムの不在が原因だと言われている。

　さて、ブレイクするきっかけになった「Seven Doors Hotel」は、古いホテルを舞台にしたサイコ・スリラー的なストーリー。♪暴動から一人の男が命を落とし、地獄へと続く門を開いてしまった… と歌っている。DIOなど、時代的にもこういう曲が多かったのだが、どこか気品があって、神秘的なのがヨーロッパならでは、だ。

　「Seven Doors Hotel」ばかりがクローズアップされるが、1曲目の「In The Future To Come」もカッコ良いスピード・ナンバーだ。ヴァースとコーラスで大きくスピードが変わる実験的な曲で、後に「あんな強引な展開は若さゆえだよ」とジョーイは笑って話すが、メロディーは素晴らしく、これはこのままで良いと思う。

北欧メタルの代名詞スウェーデンのヨーロッパは1983年のデビュー作。格調高い様式美と若さゆえの疾走感が高次元で奇跡の融合を果たした名作です。そりゃまぁＶｏのメロディ・ラインにＢ級くさい中途半端な部分もまだ見受けられますが、その辺の感覚が一層「北欧の暗い森の中」的な謎めいた雰囲気を醸し出していたりして。Ｇのジョン・ノーラムはゲイリー・ムーアのマシンガン・ピッキングとマイケル・シェンカーの叙情を併せ持った、まさにヨーロッパなギタリストで大好きです。@BHがいいですね。
