   PCだけでなく、PDAや携帯電話などにも搭載されている定番日本語入力システム「ATOK」の最新バージョン「ATOK17」がMacOS Xに対応して登場。

   単純に候補の漢字を表示する従来の漢字変換とは異なり、類似する言葉を提示し文意に沿った候補を選択できる「連想変換」を新搭載。たとえば「美しい」を入力して連想変換を行えば「可憐」「愛らしい」などが表示されるので、よりイメージにマッチした言葉を見つけることができ、語彙が乏しいと気になっている人にはありがたい機能となっている。

   また、校正支援機能もパワーアップし、ビジネス文書の作成に慣れていない人がうっかり使ってしまいがちな「くだけた表現」や言葉の誤用を指摘してくれる。もちろん基本的な変換精度も強化されており、方言対応第3弾として「中部・北陸」地方の方言モードを新搭載するなど、入力時のストレスを削減する工夫が満載だ。（三井貴美子）

MacOS Xに対応した日本語入力システム。今バージョンでは、優れた校正機能や入力支援機能に加え、ATOKが表現を提案する「連想変換」を新搭載。変換精度や表現の幅を広げる変換で、Macユーザーの日本語力アップをサポートする。また、操作性や視認性、デザインをMacOS X環境に最適になるよう向上している。さらに、「明鏡国語辞典」「ジーニアス英和辞典第3版」「ジーニアス和英辞典」の辞典3種がATOK 17と連携することにより、文章入力中に調べたい言葉の意味を、ショートカットキーでシームレスに辞典検索できる。その他、意味の近い表現を多数提示する「同音語用例ウィンドウ」、すでに確定した文字までさかのぼって間違いを指摘し、修正する「フィードバック変換」、メールやチャットなどで使用する話言葉・地方の方言・文語のスムーズ変換、ヒラギノフォント20000文字のサポートなどの機能が充実。

Mac OS X 標準の「ことえり」だと、
記号等の変換が Windows と異なるので、違いに戸惑う人も出てくると思います。
ATOK だと、その辺は Windows と同じような変換をしてくれます。
Windows で ATOK を使っている人はもちろん、
Windows 標準の MS-IME で利用している人でもこの違いは大きいです。

Windows に慣れた後に Mac を使っている方はぜひ ATOK の導入を行ってみて下さい。

少し浮気したこともあるが"ATOK 8"から"ATOK"を使い続けているので、どこが良いのかと訊かれても逆に説明しづらい。しかし、浮気が長続きしなかったことからすれば、やはり一番使いやすい日本語入力システムと言えるのだろう。辞書の鍛え方が変換効率を左右するので、長く使えば使うほど馴染んでくる。『Mac OS X v10.4』のリリース前に、それに対応したアップデータが公開されたことからしても、安心して使い続けることの出来る日本語入力システムだと思う。

変換効率はかなりよくなっていると思います。
また、Tiger発売前に対応データがダウンロードできるように
なるなど、長く使っていても安心です。

顔文字が魅力です。メールもより身近に感じ、携帯にもメールを送付しやすいですね。
現在ワード使用していますが変換はATOKです
