家族愛と言うより兄弟愛と言った感じの映画。幼い頃離れ離れになった兄弟が大人になって再会します。苦難ありですが、とにかく子供がかわいい。感動しました。

兄イクーと姉スーティエン、弟ティエン、妹ミャオの４人は、音楽教師の父と優しい母と共に、幸福とはいえないが楽しく幸せに暮らしていた。しかし、突然の悲劇が一家を襲い、４人の兄弟姉妹はそれぞれの里親へと引き取られ、バラバラになってしまう。・・・

この映画は、立派に成長した長女スーティエンが20年前の子供時代を回想するところから始まるのですが、４人の兄弟姉妹を可愛らしいこどもたちが演じています。この中でも一番泣かされたのは、長男イクーが弟や妹を引き取ってくれるように、里親に頼む場面。雪の降る中で、地面に頭をこすりつけて「この子をもらってやって下さい！」と頼むイクー、そして里親が承諾するなり、号泣しながら駆けていくイクーの姿には、涙が止まりませんでした。

公開時のコピー『私たち兄弟姉妹は、天から舞う雪のよう。最初はバラバラだけど、地上で溶けて、氷になり、やがて水となって・・・そして永遠に離れない。』に惹かれて観たのですが、本当にこのコピーは映画の内容を言い当てていて上手いと思います。観ていて家族の絆の深さを思い知ると同時に、あたたかな感情が湧いてきました。

文化革命下の中国で、豊かな才能や教育に対する熱意を教育委員会や校長に理解されず、学校を去ることになった音楽教師とその不遇に愚痴もこぼさず家庭を守る妻。不幸に不幸が重なって、十歳ぐらいの長男を先頭に4人の子どもを残して、二人同時に事故死してしまう。父母の生き方を見て育った長男は、役所にも親戚にも頼らず、下の3人の養育先を探してまわる。それから20年を経て再会した兄弟姉妹は、長兄に捨てられたという恨みやわだかまりを越えて、理解し合えるのだろうか…。
　中国映画には、文化革命に対して静かに、しかししっかりと異議を唱えるものが多く、私はこの姿勢が好きである。「ペンは剣よりも強し」という言葉があるが、「映画も剣より強し」であると思う。　
　子どもの頃の場面と成人した場面を交互に見せていくストーリー展開は効果的である。また、子役4人の演技は中国演劇教育の質の高さが伺える。家族や兄弟姉妹に対する思いがよく伝わる。小学生・中学生を含め、ご家庭での鑑賞にお勧めしたい一本である。
