即席でディーバを作り、スターの卵を買ってくる時代に本物を見つけるのは、干草の中から針を探すほど難しい。だが、アニタ・ベイカーが音楽界に戻ってくるのにこれほどふさわしい時代はなかった。10年の休止期間を経て、このソウルフルなシンガーは、熱望されていたブルーノート・レーベルでのファースト・アルバム、『My Everything』（邦題『マイ・エヴリシング』）を引っさげて戻ってきた。10曲入りのこのアルバムにがっかりさせられることはなかった。みずみずしくエモーショナル、ゴージャス、オハイオ州トレド出身のベイカーのこのアルバムを聴くと、そんな言葉が頭に浮かぶ。アルバムの幕を開ける冒頭のシングル曲「You’re My Everything」（邦題「マイ・エヴリシング」）はついひきこまれるスムーズなグルーヴで、彼女の過去の名曲を彷彿とさせる。アルバムには、前述のシングル曲のジャジーなバージョン、「You're My Everything Revisited」（邦題「マイ・エヴリシング・リヴィジッテッド」）も含まれている。ケネス・“ベイビーフェイス”・エドモンズも「Like You Used to Do」（邦題「ライク・ユー・ユースト・トゥ・ドゥ」）でベイカーと共演。このバラードは、バックの温かみのあるエレキギターがアクセントとなっていて、昔のR&Bサウンドを思い起こさせながらもそれ自身は古臭さを感じさせない。ほかに際立っているのは、「I Can’t Sleep」（邦題「アイ・キャント・スリープ」）と美しい「Close Your Eyes」（邦題「クローズ・ユア・アイズ」）だ。このアルバムに欠点があるとすれば、ベイカーの穏やかな声がたまに乱れることだ。それでも、『My Everything』は、スタイルと気品と本物の芸術性を持った音楽を提供するという点で、向上心に燃えるR&Bシンガーたちにとってお手本になるアルバムである。（Rashaun Hall, Amazon.com）

前作「Rhythm Of Love」よりちょうど10年ぶり（育児に一区切りついたのだろうか）、オリジナルアルバムとしては通算6作目になる。前所属レコード会社のエレクトラからリストラ？され、近年Van MorrisonやAl Greenの素晴らしい作品を届けてくれたBlue Noteへと移籍し、色んな意味で転換期のアルバムになるのではないかと思う。作品はまだ未聴だが大いに期待したいし、楽しみだ。
国内発売は東芝EMI。もちろん愚の骨頂のCCCD。安いUS盤を買い、気持ちよく聞きましょう。

グラミー受賞はダテじゃないぞ。どれだけのファンが待ち望んでいたことか“Rapture”の頃のAnita Bakerが帰ってきました（特に7.Close Your Eyesが最もそれっぽい）。当時を知らない二人のお子さんもお母さんの偉大さを見直したことでしょう。実に羨ましいfamilyだ。なお、輸入盤と日本盤ではジャケットが異なります。日本盤ジャケの方が好きな人は中ジャケに同じ写真があるので我慢すること。そんなことよりも日本盤はCCCDなので有無を言わさず却下！！輸入盤でも充分なブックレットがついておりBLUENOTEの気合いも伝わる好盤です。

久々のアニタベイカーの新作、しかも、プロデュースがバリーＪイーストモンドときたからには即買しかないですよね。全曲、二人の全盛期そのままの楽曲が並んでいるんだから、凄いです。いままでのアニタのなかでベストといっても過言ではないでしょう。日本のファンにはベイビーフェイスの曲に注目が行くと思いますが、この曲も全体の雰囲気を壊さず、そしてもちろん素敵な曲です。（でも、ベイビーフェイスの声のほうが大きめに録音されているのがきになります）。
