10年近くをかけて展開される一大プロジェクト『空海の旅』シリーズの第2弾。お遍路で有名な四国八十八箇所をモチーフにした作品で、今回は徳島県の十三番寺から二十三番寺までを収録。

前作の「空海の旅１」よりも、より親しみやすいメロディーが多くて、心やすらぐ一枚です。
目をとじで聞いていると、四国の山々に囲まれたお寺が浮かんでくるようです。

美しい日本情緒あるサウンドは、現代社会で疲れ果てた我々の心を癒してくれます。気分が苛立っていてもこのアルバムを聞くと優しい気持ちに慣れるのはなぜでしょうか。1970年代の喜多郎のデビュー作『天界』以来の脈々と続く喜多郎サウンドは、姿を変えながらもピュアに生き続けています。

「空海」と言えば宗教的で少しとっつきにくい感じがするかもしれませんが、そんな域をはるかに超えたすばらしいヒーリング・ミュージックになっています。
川のせせらぎの音、どこか懐かしい風の音、鳥のさえずり、低く響き渡る鐘の音。それら自然の音と、笛や人の声、電子的でありながら温かみのある喜多郎サウンドが心地よく混ざり合っています。目を閉じると田舎の田園や参道の木漏れ日なんかが浮かんできたりします。本当に心が洗われる気がしました。
「空海の旅」は四国八十八箇所参りの寺をめぐる旅であるようです。今回のアルバムには第１３番札所・大日寺から第２３番札所・薬王寺までの１１箇所のお寺のイメージ曲が収録されています。それぞれのお寺の鐘の音も入っているとか。決して信心深い訳ではないのに、お寺巡りの旅に行ってみたくなりました。
