1982年に公開された、松本零士原作の劇場用長編「わが青春のアルカディア」は、「宇宙海賊キャプテン・ハーロック」に登場するハーロック、エメラルダス、トチローたちの若き日の冒険譚。公開当時に2枚発売されたサウンドトラック盤の、こちらは2枚目となる。1枚目は『〈ANIMEX 1200シリーズ〉(8) 東映映画 わが青春のアルカディア音楽集』。 スコアを手がけたのは「火曜サスペンス劇場のテーマ」がよく知られている大森敏之。キャッチーなメロディとケレン味のあるアレンジながら、決して下品にはならず、聞いていてまことに心地よい楽曲ばかり。新日本フィルハーモニー交響楽団による安定感ある演奏ももちろんその一端を担っていることは確かだが、やはり大森敏之の絶妙のバランス感覚の賜物なのだろう。（安川正吾）
