言わずとしれた人気アニメ「巨人の星」のサウンドトラック盤。放送は1968年から71年だったが、このアルバムは1980年に発売されたもの。初CD化となる。 音楽を担当したのは、この後「アルプスの少女ハイジ」などの名作アニメから「機動戦士ガンダム」などのロボットものまで、アニメ史上に残る名作を数多く手がけた渡辺岳夫。 日本人の心のひだに触れる「泣き」のメロディを、時には泥臭い、時には都会的なアレンジで自在に演出するのが渡辺マジック。本作でもその閃きは遺憾なく発揮されている。彼のキャリアの中でも初期の代表作であり、アニメを多く手がけるきっかけとなった作品。つまりこのアルバムは、日本アニメ劇伴の始祖的存在の、ルーツと言える1枚なのだ。「思いこんだら試練の道を…」でおなじみの主題歌の収録もうれしい。（安川正吾）

何分、TVアニメ「巨人の星」は、１８０話に喃々とする長編故、全ての曲が、網羅されているわけでは有りませんが、主要なＢＧＭは、ほぼ収録されており、ファンには満足出来る内容だと思われます。音がモノラルなのも、１９６０年代を感じさせ、ステレオでの再収録で、劇中の曲と、微妙にテンポやリズムが違ってしまわず、これで良かったと思われます。
曲に、耳を傾ければ.....
星一徹が、明子姉ちゃんが、伴が、花形が、左門が、天野先生が、小宮先輩が、船場君が、
大内山先輩が、ター坊が、速水が、オズマが、橘ルミが、美奈さんが、ヨッコちゃんが、沖先生が、トメさんが、（笑）お京さんが.....　見事、脳裏に甦ります。

　　　あぁ、このＣＤを聴いて、俺は、今、モーレツに感動している！！
