忘れ去られた指揮者による忘れられた作曲家の演奏です。おまけにオーケストラは中部のデトロイト交響楽団です。自動車産業全盛の５０年代から６０年代にかけては、企業からの寄付もたくさんあったんでしょう。お金でフランスから指揮者をよんできて、ヨーロッパのクラシックを聞く。このディスクにはある時代のアメリカの大いなる田舎の理想が再現されているのかもしれません。香水の臭いをぷんぷんさせて髪をアップにさせた体の大きなアメリカのおばさんが、intermissionに、黙っていっればいいのに、大声でどうでもいい知ったかぶりの議論をしている姿が目に浮かびます。もっとも大声でしゃべりすぎて、お腹が空いちゃって、これまた大きなケーキを幕間にペロッと食べていたりして。演奏の最後には、まだ余韻が残っているのに、それを無視して、自分も参加しなきゃという意気込みで、大きな拍手を競って始めてしまい、ヨーロッパ出身の指揮者が苦笑している姿も。ちょっと悪意が強すぎたかもしれません。chabrierは、debussyやravelなどとは違い、気楽に音楽にそのまま浸ることができます。espanaやsuite pastorale、fete polonaiseは休日の朝食前にはぴったりの音楽です。ところで、私が持っているディスクは、sacd盤ではない、１０年以上前のものです。

シャブリエは他の高名な作曲家と比較するとマイナーではありますが、曲自体は楽しい雰囲気の曲が多く、とても親しみやすく聴きやすいです。デトロイト交響楽団の録音はクリアで質が高いと思います。お勧めします。
