Rush's return to progressive hard rock continued with Roll the Bones, though there's still a bit of synth work (notably on the title track). The music flows like a well-oiled machine, and with Rush, that's an asset, particularly when the material is this good. The songs are mostly up-tempo, with the intellectually oriented themes and musical structure that Rush is famous for. Especially memorable are "Dreamline," "Face Up," "Big Wheel," and "Neurotica," but everything here is good. --Genevieve Williams

RUSHというバンドを今からFollowする場合、生半可じゃない枚数のアルバムが出ているので、どれを最初に買うべきか、非常に難しい。且つ、時期によって楽曲の根っこは変わらないが枝葉の部分に流行を取り入れている、というか良い意味でこの人たちはミーハーなんだろうな、多分、、、と思わせる曲（アルバム）があるので、最初に聴く一枚を誤ると、後々、取り返しのつかないことになる可能性がある（かく言う自分もPower　Windowsからいきなり2112に飛んだため、挫折しかかった。非常にやばかったが何とか持ち直し、全アルバムをFollowするに至る）。
そういう観点から見ると、このアルバムは全作Prestoと同様流行を取り入れたアルバムと言えるかも知れない。
よって一番最初に聴くアルバムとしてはお勧めしないですが、めぼしいアルバムを聴いた後であれ「この時期のRUSHはPopになってROCKじゃない」という外野の声に惑わされずに、聴いてみる価値はあるアルバムだと思います（Different Stagesのライヴ盤を聴くと、この時期の曲がROCKでないと言った人の鼻が白むほどのアグレッシヴな演奏に遭遇することになる、、、）。☆はやっぱり5つです。

サウンドは前作「PRESTO」の延長線上。「PRESTO」より軽快な曲が多い。3ROLL THE BONESではラップにも挑戦？！（ちょこっとだけ。）4FACE UP
はRUSHらしい曲。5WHERE'S MY THING?は久々のインスト曲。6THE BIG WHEEL,7HERESYは前々作「HOLD YOUR FIRE」に出てきそうな曲。
　個人的には「HOLD YOUR FIRE」~「PRESTO」~「ROLL THE BONES」(本作)の３作で「POWER WINDOWS」以前のアルバムを越える作品は残念ながら完成させる事は出来なかったと思います。しかしながらこのアルバムはここ３作のサウンドのある意味完成形の作品のようにも思います。
　次作「COUNTERPARTS」では再びPETER COLLINSプロデュースに戻っています。

カナダのラッシュ、通算17枚目(ベストを除く)のアルバムです。
共同プロデューサーは前作同様にルパート・ハインです。


基本的には前作と同様の路線なのですが、アルバム自体の出来は前作を遥かに凌ぐと思います。
いかにもラッシュらしいドリームラインや、ほんの少しですがラップを含むロールザボーン、久々のインストであるホエアズマイシングなどを含む好盤です。

にもかかわらず、何故かこのアルバムはラッシュファンに人気がないみたいです。 いいアルバムなんだけどなぁ〜・・・・・・。


ジャケットは頭蓋骨を蹴り転がす少年。確かにアルバムタイトルにズバリなんですが、ラッシュらしくないように思えます。


初めてラッシュを聴く方に積極的に薦めるアルバムだとまでは言いませんが、ある程度ラッシュを聴いている方でしたらこのアルバムの良さは必ず理解していただけると思います。
