The production on Counterparts is a bit too smooth, which means that the passion that normally infuses Rush's music (and prevents it from being too coldly intellectual) is weakened. The songs themselves are good, including the singles "Animate", "Nobody's Hero", and "Stick It Out". Other standouts are "Cut to the Chase" and "Cold Fire". Though Rush's brand of slick, sophisticated progressive rock isn't exactly trendy, it is what they do best, and they've wisely stuck to it. Therefore, although Counterparts isn't on a par with Moving Pictures or Permanent Waves, it's still a strong effort. --Genevieve Williams

今年30周年記念ツアーを北米と欧州で行っているラッシュ。とても30年もやっているとは思えないほどエネルギッシュで完璧なライヴを観てとても驚かせられました。今回そのラッシュのリマスターが追加されたのですが、特にこのCounterpartsはオリジナルでも素晴らしい音だったのでリマスターでもあまり変わらないのでないかと思っていたのですがとてもクリアで迫力のある音になっていて驚きました。しかもこのリーズナブルな価格でしたらリマスターされた他のアルバムも買いですね。

RUSHは皆さんご存じの通り、そのときどきの流行の音楽に影響を受けやすい。メンバーの好奇心が未だ旺盛だということなのでしょうが、、、
このアルバムが出た頃は世はグランジブーム。PRESTO、ROLL THE BONESは良い曲満載の良盤ではあるが「RUSHは軟弱になった」「ALEXは楽しいのだろうか」といった心ないコメントがちらほら出ていたのも事実（僕の回りだけ??）。そんな中でガツンと一発かましてくれたのがこのアルバムである。
ギターが全面に出ていて、ベースもブリブリ唸って、RUSHがROCKであることをいとも鮮やかに我々に見せつけてくれる。Cut to the ChaseのG Soloなんか、ギターを弾かない人間が聴いても格好良さが伝わってくる。
RUSHのROCKな部分寄りのアルバムを聴くのであれば、後期であればこのアルバムだと思う（後は意外とVapour Trailsかな）。

　ＲＵＳＨといえば、｢２１１２｣｢ムーヴィング・ピクチュアズ｣など、高度な演奏技術と複雑な曲構成が特徴の難解なイメージのあるバンドではあるが、実際ライヴＤＶＤなどを見ると、いつの時代だってロック然とした熱いバンドであることがわかる。
　このアルバムは、90年代のグランジ隆盛時に発表されたアルバムであり、その影響か今までになく音がパワフルで分厚くなっており、ある意味ライヴ時に垣間見せる、ロック然としたＲＵＳＨを押し出した、ＨＲファンに一番受け入れやすい内容ではないかと私は思う。
　私はいきなり１曲目の｢アニメイト｣におけるＮ・パートのパワフルなドラムにＧ・ベースがからむという出だしにＫ.Ｏ.されちゃったクチである。共に切ないバラード｢ノーバディズ・ヒーロー｣をはじめ、かっこいいＨＲが目白押しである。もしかしたらＲＵＳＨの中で一番好きなアルバムかもしれん。
　｢プログレチックなＲＵＳＨは…｣とおしゃる若いＨＲロックファンは、このアルバムから聴いてみたらどうであろう。
