７５年発表の１ｓｔ。アラン・ゴウエン(k) 率いるギルガメッシュのデビュー作がこれ。フィル・リー(g)、マイケル・トラヴィス(Dr)らはほぼ不動だったが、ベーシストが安定せず、ニール・マレイ、スティーヴ・クック、ジェフ・クラインと次々と変わった。このグループはハットフィールズとライヴで客演しあうほど仲が良く、そんな縁があって本作のプロデュースもハットフィールズのデイヴ・スチュワートが担当している。メンバーは全く異なるもののその音楽性はハットフィールズに極めて近く、彼らが後に合体してナショナル・ヘルスに改編されるも良く理解出来る。アマンダ・パーソンズがコーラスで参加した曲などは特に似た雰囲気を持っている。こちらのメンバーはジャズ系ミュージシャンのためハットフィールズよりもかなりジャズ寄りではあるが、そういったジャズ/フュージョン系の臭いはほとんどしない。非常に美しいカンタベリー・ジャズ・ロックのもう一つの秘宝。

　アラン・ゴーウェンの曲が大半を占めており、ゴーウェンの世界に浸るには良いですが、どちらかというと地味なジャズ・ロックといった感じで今ひとつ華やかさに欠ける印象を持ちます。
　曲調、雰囲気共にナショナル・ヘルスを彷彿させるサウンドも有り、両者のファンにとっては充分楽しめる内容ではないかと思います。

　ですが、こういったサウンドに興味がない方が聴くには、ちょっと辛いかもしれません。繰り返しになりますが、ともすると内向的なジャズ・ロックの世界へと曲が進展してしまいます。このあたりが評価の分かれ目のような気がします。

4.0 out of 5 stars ブリティッシュ・プログレッシブ　〜　カンタベリー系の魅力が、きゅっと詰まった好盤, 2009/4/12

バンド・アンサンブルが気持ちいいですし
曲もわりとメロディアスなものが多く
少し翳りを帯びた複雑なコード進行もあり

ブリティッシュ・ロックの黄金期の良さを
コンパクトに、きゅっと凝縮したような内容に
なっていると思います。

あえて言うなら
非の打ちどころがなさ過ぎて
聴き始めの頃は
インパクトに欠ける、と感じる人もいるかもしれません。

でも、ジャズ・ロック、カンタベリー系は全体的に
そういう傾向があるのかなあ、と思います。
