ラストアルバムという偏見があるせいか、
「一つの時代が終わり、何か新しいものが始まる」
という雰囲気がありありと出ており、
それが表現したかった作品なのでは？と思える。
（Orbitalのアルバムで何を表現したかったか
考えること自体センスがないと思うけども。）

"Altogether"は、まとまった良い作品で、

いかにも「完成型」という雰囲気をかもし出していた。
好き嫌いの出る作品だろうが、僕自身は
巧すぎて好きになれない作品だった。

今回の作品は、Orbital自身も
「ファーストアルバムに似ている」と語っているように、
ラストだけに原点回帰という感じが出ている。

ただ、"Choice"や"Satan", 1stアルバム、"Brown album"の頃のような

不完全さ、誰にもまねできない「挑戦」や
形容しがたい「攻撃性」のようなものは感じられない。
聞けば聞くほど、Orbitalというアーティストは、
完成したのだなぁ・・・
というなんともいえない喪失感を感じてしまう。

個人的なキートラックは1, 7, 10。

Orbitalで青春時代をすごしてきた私は、
1.は涙なしでは聞けませんでした。

7.はかっこよく、ひたすら聞き込みたい作品。
10.はすでにシングルカットされている。終わりではなく、何かが始まるのだという感触を得ることができる作品。この曲があるから、何かすくわれた感じがする。

ぜひ聞いてみてください。

通算9枚目にして15年間の活動に終止符をうつラスト・アルバム。ロンドンの兄弟のユニットは解散と相成りました。第一線で活躍していただけに寂しいねぇ。タイトルが初期作品を思い起こさせるだけでは無く、楽曲も最新の音を使いながらも最近の作品とは違ってオーソドックスなスタイルになっている。「The Altogether」を期待していた人にはちょっと退屈かもしれない。楽曲解説「 Transient」ヴィオラと雨音の様なサンプリング音が混じり合う様が美しい。「Pants」割と前作よりの曲。シーケンスが頭の中回る。３分辺りからの展開は堪らないね♪「Bath Time」大好きな曲。単純な音作りながらも、これだけの美しい楽曲を作り出せるとは･･･。「Acid Pants」唯一のアッパーな曲。何か叫んどるな（笑）「One Perfect Sunrise」ラストを飾るに相応しい曲。リサ嬢の歌声といい全てが幻想的。ゲスト・ミュージシャンは、4AD所属の女性アーティストLisa Gerrardに加えて、ベテラン・モダン・ポップ・ユニット“スパークス”も参加。本作の聴き所はオーケストレーションやストリングスが織り成す音響世界。アンビエントとは一味違うが、音の広がり方や伝わる情景の素晴らしさは香港映画「ＨＥＲＯ」が見せた美しい精神世界を想像させてくれる。とても美しい・・・しかし、どこか寂しい。そんなラストアルバムに相応しいサウンドが展開されていく。本作発売後、日本のテクノフェスティバル「WIRE04」にて解散ライヴを行なった。

ここ数枚の彼らのアルバムは高品位でまとまりがあり、
音のディテールへのこだわりが感じられ、
大人の音楽への脱皮への試みが現れた印象を受ける。
また幻想的なサウンドは映画のサウンドトラックのようでさえある。

ただeasy listening的な傾向もあり、
僕のように往年の鬼気迫る勢いのあった音を期待していると

少し肩透かしを食らってしまうかもしれない。

何はともあれ、15年間もの長い間、安定しない音楽ビジネスの
一線でテクノ・ダンスミュージックの裾野を広げ、牽引してきた
彼らの偉業は大きく、ライブパフォーマンスも定評のある
貴重なテクノアクトだけに惜しまれるところである。
