アンドリュー・ロイド・ウェバー(曲)とティム・ライス(詞)のコンビが世界的なスポットを浴びた出世作。タイトル・チューンや 「私はイエスが分からない」 「今宵は安らかに」 などの名曲がぎっしり入ったロック・オペラとして発表され、ブロードウェイやロンドンなど各国で大ヒット。日本では劇団四季によって初演され現在まで同劇団の人気レパートリーとして定着している。ブロードウェイの初演には 『ピピン』 のベン・ヴェリーンも参加。

荒削りな感じが心地よく
ロックオペラの名に恥じない作品だと思います。
テンポは心なしか速め。

個人的には"天国に心奪われて"の。ポンポンポン♪ってなるベース音がとても好きです。
"イエスは死すべし"の司祭たちの歌声が
まさに悪巧みしてます、というアメリカンコメディアニメの悪党どもって感じが面白かった…
全曲入っていないのが残念ではありますが。

いろんなジーザス・クライスト＝スーパースターのサウンドトラックを聞いてみましたが、
このCDも他のものと違う、独特の力強さがあります。

ハイライト盤で、個人的には"The Last Supper"がないのが非常に残念です。ナンバーが少ないせいか、
ジーザスの印象も薄いような…。
ジーザス役のJeff Fenholtはくせのない歌声で、アレンジも殆どしないスタンダードな歌唱が聴きやすい。
ユダ役のBen Vereenは黒人で、ソウルフルなシャウトを聴かせてくれます。情熱的でかっこいい。
マリアとピラトは映画と同じ役者さん。
